Tips for Keeping Your Hair in Check This Summer

Summer is an exciting time of the year. The weather is perfect for going to the beach and engaging in outdoor activities. Unfortunately, summer may also bring unpleasant heat, which may damage your hair.

Maintaining your hair quality and texture during summer can be a tedious task. Avoid split ends, sun damage, frizz, and oily scalp using the following guidelines.

  1. Dry Shampoo

Shampoos are industrially processed and infused with chemical bonding elements. Thus, using too much could lead to hair damage. Normal shampoo removes natural oils from the scalp and leaves the hair exposed. This can result in a dry scalp.

Your best option is to use a dry shampoo. Unlike regular shampoo, you don’t need water for this type. They come in paste or spray form. Applying dry shampoo will help to preserve your hair color and keep it moisturized.

  1. Head Accessories and Products

The summer heat can leave your hair quite dry. This is the right time for you to shop for a head accessory that will keep your hair protected from excess heat. The best option would be a brimmed hat, umbrella, or at least a scarf.

Ensure that you carry a breathable scarf or a hat that prevents sunlight penetration. Also, try to avoid materials that may trigger static when in contact with strands of hair.

The sun’s heat can also dry your hair and make it fall flat. Use a root lifting spray to give your hair volume.

  1. Hair Trim

The scorching summer heat is destructive to the edges of the hair causing split ends, which can make you look bad.

You should trim your hair to a manageable length to prevent split ends. Trimming also allows you to easily maintain your hair and prevent excessive damage. Start trimming the edges before summer starts and make it a routine throughout the season.

  1. Smoothing Serum

Frizzy bits can be annoying and too much work to fix. Use a DIY smoothing serum on your hair to keep it fresh and natural – try to avoid chemical products.

To make DIY smoothing serum, mix a tablespoon of olive oil and jojoba. After mixing the concoction, add 6 drops of peppermint oil. Use a glass bottle with a dropper as a container. That way, it will be easy to apply the serum on your hair.

  1. Loosen Your Hair

Keeping your hair tied tight will likely prevent it from getting enough air. This can cause your hair to break, especially if it has experienced sun damage. A new season is a time for trying out new styles; thus, let your hair loose. You can also keep a low bun.

  1. Cover Your Hair in the Pool

Swimming pools are treated with chlorine to protect swimmers from infections and keep the water clean. Unfortunately, chlorine is bad for your hair. The chemical can leave your hair dry and damaged.

Before you go for a swim, cover your head with a cap to protect it from chlorine.

In summary, although the summer weather is good, it can present challenges for your hair. For example, exposing your hair to intense heat can lead to a dry scalp. Keep your hair moisturized and free from damage using the above tips.
