Fruits like grapefruit, lemons, and oranges are packed with flavonoids and anti-oxidants that can help reduce inflammation while removing free radicals in your body. Decreased inflammation can reduce the stiffness and blood pressure in your arteries resulting in nitric oxide production and improved blood flow. Regular consumption of citric fruits can help reduce your overall blood pressure and minimize your risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. Pro tip: Meyer lemon trees in particular are a great citrus trees to keep indoors AND outdoors.

Studies have shown that regular use of turmeric in foods improves blood circulation by opening the blood vessels. Turmeric is rich in a compound known as curcumin that helps increase the production of nitric oxide, decrease inflammation, and reduce oxidative stress.

#4 Beets

Beets have been the favorites for athletes to help improve overall performance. Consuming beet powder or beet juice can help increase the production of nitric oxide in your body. Nitric oxide is responsible for relaxing the blood vessels and increasing the blood flow to the tissues of the body. Beets can improve the flow of oxygen in the muscle tissue and stimulate blood circulation.

#5 Fatty Fish

Fatty fishes like tuna, mackerel, and salmon are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential in proper blood circulation as they promote the production of nitric oxide in the body. When the nitric oxide production is adequate, it helps to dilate the blood vessels that ultimately increase the blood flow. On the other hand, omega-3 fatty acids are responsible for inhibiting the clumping of blood platelets. This reduces the risk of blood clot formation.

#6 Garlic

Garlic, like turmeric, has been used for centuries for improving blood circulation and keeping the heart healthy. Garlic is rich in sulfur compounds that include allicin. It can help lower the blood pressure and increase the tissue blood flow by relaxing your blood vessels. Diets rich in garlic can help with improved flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), which is a sign of blood flow efficiency.

  • I add tumeric and spinach to my morning smoothie everyday because of the nutritional profile. I didn’t realize all the health benefits of onions. This is great information.
