Road Trips, Beaches and Family Adventures: Where Are You Headed This Summer?

I don’t know about anyone else, but we are definitely headed out this summer. The moment school starts winding down and the weather finally decides to cooperate, everybody in my house suddenly starts talking vacations, road trips, beaches, and weekend getaways.

There is just something about summertime that makes you want to roll the windows down, turn the music up, grab some snacks, and hit the road. Whether it is the beach, a family vacation, a quick weekend getaway, or just discovering a few hidden gems close to home, summer always feels like the perfect time to get out and make memories.

Let’s be honest though, summer fun can also bring a little chaos. One minute everyone is excited and packing swimsuits, and the next minute somebody cannot find their charger, someone forgot headphones, and someone is asking if we packed snacks again.

As a mom, I have learned over the years that packing clothes is actually the easy part. It is all the little travel accessories and must have items that can make or break the trip. Nothing is worse than hearing someone’s phone battery died, a child asking where their headphones are, or realizing halfway through the drive that something important got left sitting on the kitchen counter.

Oh, and let’s not forget… I’m older now too, so forgetting things seems to come with the territory these days…lol lol. I cannot tell you how many times I have walked through the house saying, “Okay everyone, do we have everything?” while secretly wondering if I remembered everything myself.

After being cooped up through school schedules, work schedules, activities, and everyday life, summer feels like our reset button. Around here, once the weather warms up everyone suddenly starts planning where they want to go next. Someone wants the beach, someone wants a road trip, and somebody always throws out a vacation idea they saw online.

Family travel looks different for everyone. Some families are packing up and heading to places like Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Gatlinburg, or even planning a visit to Mackinac Island for a little adventure and a little fun.

Others are keeping it simple with weekend camping trips, local attractions, water parks, lake days, beach weekends, or exploring hidden gems close to home.

And honestly, some of our favorite family memories have not always come from the biggest vacations. Sometimes it is those random last minute road trips, stopping for snacks, finding a cute little restaurant, laughing in the car, and discovering places we never planned to visit.

Traveling as a mom also changes how you think. Years ago, I probably would have packed clothes, grabbed a purse, and headed out the door. Now I think about things differently. I think about keeping everyone comfortable, keeping everyone entertained, remembering chargers, snacks, medicine, and all the little things that somehow become a major emergency if forgotten.

Because somehow nobody remembers what they need until you are halfway down the road…lol lol.

Traveling also looks a lot different now than it did years ago. I remember when getting away meant tossing a few outfits into a bag, grabbing a map, and heading out the door. Now there are chargers for phones, tablets, smart watches, portable devices, snacks packed for emergencies, comfort items for the kids, and enough accessories to practically fill another suitcase all by themselves. Somewhere along the way family travel became a whole production…lol.

Still, I would not trade those moments for anything. There is something special about rolling the windows down on a summer drive, watching kids get excited as vacation gets closer, and hearing everyone talk about where they want to stop along the way. Those little moments end up becoming the memories we talk about years later.

One thing I have learned is that family vacations do not have to be expensive or over the top to be meaningful. Some of our favorite adventures have been simple weekend trips, beach days, family visits, or finding local attractions we never knew existed. Whether it is beach towns, family attractions, lake destinations, or hidden roadside gems, they all have one thing in common. They create opportunities to slow down and enjoy time together.

And can we talk about road trips for a minute? Because somehow every road trip follows the same pattern. Everybody is excited for the first hour.

Music is playing, snacks are being passed around, and everyone is talking. Then suddenly somebody needs the bathroom, someone forgot something, someone is hungry again, and someone starts asking, “Are we there yet?” every twenty minutes…lol lol.

That is exactly why I have learned to prepare ahead of time. The little things really do matter. Having the right travel accessories on hand can turn a stressful trip into a much smoother experience for everyone involved.

That is when I realized having the right travel essentials nearby can make a huge difference.Whether it is keeping devices charged, making long drives more comfortable, or helping keep the kids entertained, those little extras can save a lot of stress along the way.

From keeping devices charged and kids entertained to helping everyone stay comfortable during long drives, below are a few travel must haves our family always tries to keep nearby before heading out on summer adventures.
