Promise Ring Etiquette to Remember

Lots of couples and even friends wear rings that symbolize their relationship. A ring, no matter what its material and design may be, stands for the love and compassion that two people or even a group of people have for each other.

Here are a couple of things you should remember when giving or receiving something important, such as flexible rings that symbolize promises.

Knowing the promise

Before giving a promise ring to a partner or friend, you should think about the commitment that you will make to the other person. You don’t give out a promise ring only for the sake of doing so, as it should signify something meaningful for both of you.

Consider drafting a small speech or writing a letter before giving a ring to the other person. Doing this will make the memory of giving and receiving the ring special. You can be specific about the promises that you plan to keep, as these are what the ring will symbolize.

Choosing the right style

Decide on what style or look you want the promise ring to have. Make sure to consider the receiver’s style so that they can incorporate it into their everyday outfits. If you are a couple, you might want to avoid getting a ring that is too elaborate, as your partner might mistake this for an engagement ring.

However, there are no specific rules when it comes to designing a promise ring, so be as creative and bold as you want to be. What’s important is the symbolism of promises it has.

Wearing the ring

It doesn’t matter whether you want to wear the ring on your left or right hand. However, most people believe that if a promise ring is given as a precursor to an engagement ring, it should be worn on the right hand. If it symbolizes something romantic, you might want to consider wearing it on the right side.

Otherwise, if you receive a ring from a friend, consider wearing it on your left hand. Doing this can avoid giving the wrong impression of the jewelry piece. You can also try wearing it around your neck with a beautiful chain necklace.

Breaking or Fulfilling Promises

Once the promise has been fulfilled or broken, the receiver can decide whether they want to give the ring back to the giver or keep it. The usual course of action is to return it, but if the giver doesn’t take it back, you can keep it somewhere safe. You have the option to continue wearing it. Although if you are not comfortable in doing so, it would be best to store it in a place where it can be safe.

Selling the ring is also an option, although you should receive the giver’s permission before doing so. That is to ensure that both of you are on the same stand on the ring’s ownership.

If you are clueless about giving or receiving promise rings, you can start with this guide. There are no specific rules when giving or receiving a promise ring. Although, following a guide like this can make this process easier and much more meaningful for both parties.
