Phuket is one of the areas in Thailand that gets the most tourists. The rustic natural beauty of this region is unparalleled, and tourists will be able to enjoy pretty much the very best that this country has to offer. However, as a tourist, you’ll need a bit of a tour guide concerning Phuket, especially when it comes to the lovely islands close to it. With that in mind, keep the following places on your list as you plan your vacation to the charming Thai city.
Phi Phi Islands
The Phi Phi islands are perhaps the most popular and acclaimed of the islands near Phuket. The little area houses six islands, all of which are surrounded by beautiful emerald waters. Regardless of what your taste for adventure and tourism is, these islands will undoubtedly pique your fancy. The largest of these islands is Koh Phi Phi Don, and it’s the only one with inhabitants. It features three areas on its own – a village between Dalum and Tonsai, the tropical, beach-like Laem Thong, and the southern coast, which provides accommodation choices for tourists.
The Coral Island
Coral Island is a rather small island. Located off the southeastern coast of Phuket, the island is just about 15 minutes from the mainland by speedboat. Coral Island features two beaches, which are named Banana and Long. Both of these beaches face the north, and they provide premium diving and snorkeling scenery. The island also has a hotel, as well as several bars and restaurants. The days are a tad busy, but you can get all the peace and tranquility you need at night.
Owned by the Marine National Park, the Similan Islands comprises of nine separate islands that are situated about 84 km northwest of Phuket. Not much in the way of development has come to these islands, and that’s perhaps what makes them so lovely. You get to see an unspoiled remote location that’s just the same as it used to be centuries ago. The Similans are currently among the best dive sites on the planet, and whether you’re looking for a nice day trip spot or you’re going for a short stopover, this is one of the islands near Phuket that you’ll need to step your feet on.
Called “Raya” by some, the Racha Islands consists of two lovely island spots toward the southern side of Phuket. The islands, known as Racha Noi and Racha Yai, have gained popularity for being awesome sites for snorkeling and diving, as well as the fish-filled waters that surround them. Of course, you can count on lovely scenery going around as well. Currently, Racha Yai is the only island that provides accommodation options. Still, both locations are premium spots for sure.
The Khai Islands (Koh Khai Nai and Koh Khai Nok) are two quaint islets that are located close to Phuket. Koh Khai Nok is the larger of the two, and it’s usually busy in the high season. Both Khai Islands are uninhabited, but you can visit them to get all you need for a lovely day at the beach – bars, restaurants, umbrellas, sun lounges, and much more. Koh Khai Nok also provides a plethora of fish that roam around the shore, thus providing a lovely aesthetic and feeling of swimming in an aquarium.
