Frugal parenting is the new way to go. With tough economic times, it’s important for parents to practice frugality with their children in order to save money and help out. It can be difficult as a parent to tell your kids they can’t have what everyone else has, but when you offer an alternative that will satisfy their needs and interests, it makes the process easier for everyone.

PLAYDATES ARE BEST

Most children will want to invite their friends over to play at their house. You can have a much more fun time with your child by playing games like tag and hide-and-seek rather than sitting around watching TV or eating junk food. If you have a Wii, then you can easily have your child play with their friends at home.

All you need to do is buy two or three more controllers and you’re set. With the Wii, it even allows for parents to get involved in some of the activities with their children and it’s something they can do that will bring them closer together.

SET AN EXAMPLE OF FRUGAL LIVING

You can be a great inspiration to your children by leading them in the right direction when it comes to saving money. Parents often miss out on opportunities to save because they don’t consider the future, or think that if they have enough money saved now, then their children’s futures will always be taken care of. To ensure your kids are frugal and know how to manage their money properly such as using weekly ads with great discounts, you need to lead by example. This can be done through what you buy for your kids.

Saving money doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality time with your children, so try buying used clothes and toys at thrift shops or even garage sales. You can also save a lot of money by collecting items and teaching your kids to do some of the things you used to do, such as sewing or creating crafts.

LET THEM HANDLE THEIR OWN MONEY

When your child is old enough, you can help them invest in a savings account. Letting them deposit their money and earn interest on it by themselves ensures that they know how to save properly and look after their money so they won’t end up spending it all when they get older. It will also teach your children how much of an effort goes into saving money, and will help them learn how to work hard when they’re older.

IMPROVISE

You can provide your children with a fun time by coming up with activities that are unique to you and them. Instead of taking them to see the latest Disney movie, come up with some funny ideas that will entertain both the kids and yourself. You’ll end up having more fun than if you’d gone out to spend money on
