A great way to get the home of your dreams without custom building it is to purchase a home that can be renovated to suit your needs perfectly. When you purchase a home, it may look amazing at first, but once you start the renovation process, there are many times when unexpected issues become visible. The guide below walks you through a few things that may be wrong with your home that you cannot see upon first inspection of the property.

The Home May be Infested

There are many times when a home may look pristine, but have a bug infestation lying behind the drywall, under the floors, or in the foundation of a home. It is important to hire a pest control company to come and inspect your home to determine if there are any infestations that need to be addressed.

Joshua’s Pest Control Kansas City can send a technician to your home to inspect in the crawl space to look for bugs, such as termites, or pests such as mice or snakes. The technician will also search behind the walls and in the attic to make sure that there are no pests living in your home. If there are, he or she can let you know what action can be taken to get rid of them quickly and easily.

The Home May Have Faulty Wiring

Some older homes have wiring that is outdated and has the potential to catch fire. You need to have an electrician  come to the home to inspect the electrical components of the home to make sure that everything is up to code and working properly. If the wiring is outdated, the electrician can remove the old wiring and replace it with new wiring that is safe and designed to last for years to come.

The Home May Have Asbestos

For many years, asbestos was added to shingles, drywall, and even insulation that was used in the construction of houses. Breathing in asbestos particles has been shown to be very bad for your health and is even linked to certain cancers. Hire an asbestos abatement company to come and do tests on your home to determine if there is any asbestos on the property before you start removing walls or shingles. They will be able to let you know right away if there is any asbestos.

If asbestos is found, professionals will have to remove the asbestos for you and clean the home to make sure that none of the particles are left behind. They have specific equipment that they use to keep themselves safe and do the job thoroughly to ensure you and anyone else that live in the home are as safe as you can be at all times.

The Home May Have Foundation Issues

When you walk through a home, you may not be able to tell that there are foundational issues within it. There are many times when the foundation may not be level, which will cause you to need to hire a company to level it for you before you make any changes to the home. If you were to wait to level the home until a later date, the walls could crack and any tile you have put down could pop and come loose or crack and be destroyed when the foundation is leveled.

When these issues arise, it is important to get them addressed before taking any more steps toward the renovation process. You do not want to put up walls only to have to take them down so that a plumber or electrician can reach the pipes. You also do not want to add new wood to areas that are termite infested. Getting the home fully inspected after you purchase it will allow you to know what issues need to be addressed before you start renovating anything.
