Coping With Severe Cramping During Pregnancy

Severe cramping during pregnancy can be risky. It can mean that you are about to miscarry your baby. It is particularly risky if severe bleeding accompanies it. Generally, slight cramping is normal during early pregnancy. It can occur as the fertilized female egg implants on the uterine wall. Normally the cramping at this time is mild and many women hardly notice it.

However, there are many other causes of cramps. Among them is that as the fetal grows it stretches the veins muscles and ligaments of the uterus. This forces the mothers abdominal cells to expand. Nevertheless, since they may not be expanding faster than they can cope this could lead to spasm

Ectopic pregnancy too can cause cramping. This normally occurs when the fertilized female egg settles elsewhere outside the uterus. Naturally, the environment of the uterus is suitable for a fetus to develop. However, other parts of the body might not enable the fetus to develop. Therefore, when the egg begins to grow out of the uterus it might not survive for long. However, it could rupture veins and damage vital body organs thus causing you pain.

Preterm labor is also another cause of severe cramping during pregnancy. Many babies globally are born before their term and this is normal. However, it all depends on when the preterm labor occur. If a woman gives birth too early for instance, this could lead to the baby developing some health complications. This is because it may not have developed all its organs fully. However, putting such a baby in an incubator for a number of days could help its vital organs to develop fully.

During the second and third trimester, some women experience Braxton Hicks contractions. These intermittent contractions occur during pregnancy. Moreover, round ligament pain too often strike women in the second and third trimester.

Finally, there is the issue of labor. Once a baby birth date is due, a woman start to experience some contractions as labor sets in. This natural body mechanism enables a woman to push the baby out of the uterus and into the world. It normally occurs when the uterus cannot hold the baby any longer. As the baby becomes bigger and bigger it develops all the vital organs, it needs to survive outside its mother. It has its own heart, lungs, brain, kidneys and everything else a normal human being has except teeth. As a fully developed individual, the environment of the uterus irritates it and so it is only natural that it should try to get out.

Generally, the contractions during labor can range from mild to severe. However, unless there is an emergency and a woman needs to get the baby through the caesarean section most mothers deliver their babies normally. However, in the event of a breech birth, doctors have to take extra caution to ensure the birth of the child goes on normally, even when that means through C-section. Breech birth occurs when a baby is unable to adopt a head-down position in late pregnancy and so comes out feet first at birth.
