What You Can Do When Your Car Breaks Down In Traffic

It hurts to see your car break down in traffic. You have treated it well, changing oil even more frequently than advised, and despite all your efforts, it fails you when you need it the most. After a moment of consideration, you opt against falling into despair and decide to face this dire situation. What should be your next steps?

The first thing that you should do is to pull over to the side of the road. Although your car might have refused to cooperate, there are still other cars on the road. If you don’t want to cause an accident, turn on the hazard lights. Drivers may get distracted, or mist or sunlight might get in the way – better make yourself visible.

After you’ve done that, check if it is safe to exit the vehicle, and once you’ve left your car, call for roadside assistance. It is likely that you’ll have to wait a considerable amount of time before the help arrives, so you may want to occupy yourself with something. It sure is stressful to see your car break down, but shouting obscenities won’t make your situation any better.

Regular maintenance is mandatory if you want to avoid such situations. It’s the same as with your health – it is much easier to prevent than to treat. If you don’t have time to visit a mechanic once a month, you could alternatively buy an OBD2 scanner, or download an app on your smartphone to diagnose your car on your own. Afterwards, use the internet to your advantage by f.e. learning more about p0420 code error. If you don’t have much experience with car repairs, it will take some time before it stops being quite challenging, but all the things that are worth learning don’t come easy.
