Turkey’s Low-Cost Hair Transplants: Can You Trust Them?

Pattern baldness affects more than 50% of men over 50 worldwide. Many who suffer from pattern baldness consider getting a hair transplant. Unfortunately, they are often put off by the price of such a procedure.

If you’re considering a hair transplant, the good news is that you don’t have to spend your life savings to get one. In Turkey, even internationally-renowned hair restoration clinics (such as The Vera Clinic in Istanbul) charge affordable rates for their services.

Hair Restoration Prices In Turkey

Hair transplant costs in Turkey are much lower than they are in most Western countries. They will, of course, rise and fall depending on the clinic you go to and the procedure you choose. However, even the most complex procedures rarely exceed a couple of thousand dollars in price.

FUE Hair Transplant Costs

FUE stands for “follicular unit extraction”. It is arguably the most popular hair restoration method in Turkey and beyond. FUE hair restoration works by removing a number of hair follicles from a donor site on the patient’s head. They are then carefully relocated to the area suffering from hair loss. The procedure is quite complex and requires specially-trained surgeons. For this reason, it can cost upwards of $20,000. In most Turkish clinics, however, FUE hovers around the $5000 mark.

FUT Hair Transplant Costs

Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) was perhaps the number-one method of hair transplantation before the FUE technique came along. In many ways, it is quite similar to FUE hair transplant. However, rather than extracting individual follicles, FUT removes actual patches of hair-bearing skin from the patient’s head. This has earned it the nickname “strip harvesting”. Although certainly effective, FUT can be quite gruesome and requires a much longer recovery time than follicular unit extraction. On the bright side, it will set you back markedly less. In most Turkish hair clinics, FUT prices start at around $4,000. However, we have heard stories about people obtaining a full FUT treatment for just a little over $1000.

Why Is It So Cheap?

Westerners are used to hair transplants costing upwards of $20,000. For this reason, they tend to look at Turkey’s affordable hair restoration clinics with a degree of suspicion. Surely with prices that low they must be hiding something, right? Wrong!

Unlike most other countries, Turkey is flooded with hair restoration clinics. There are more than 300 in the city of Istanbul alone. As a consequence, clinics in the country are forced to offer low prices in order to compete with each other. Furthermore, many of the most important advancements in hair restoration technology have been made in Turkey. This means clinics in the country don’t have to spend extra cash to bring in experts and specialized equipment from abroad. Finally, Turkey attracts medical tourists from all over the world. With a higher demand for their services and a constant flow of clients, there is no need to charge any one customer an exorbitant fee.
