Greece is a beautiful country with many historical sites. It’s also the home of one of the world’s most famous foods. If you are wanting to visit Greece, but aren’t sure what to do, here are a few fun things to do whilst you’re there.

Try climbing Mount Olympus

Even if you are not familiar with Greek mythology, you must have heard of Mount Olympus, where Zeus ruled over all, including the gods that lived there. Some of the gods that most well known are Poseidon, Hera, Artemis, Hermes and Athena.

The mountain itself covers 500 square kilometres (190 sq mi) of area, and takes around 2 days to climb, and has a refuge where climbers can spend a night. It is definitely something worth experiencing, albeit once.

Visit the Acropolis Museum

If you enjoy Greek culture and history, then the Acropolis Museum should be at the top of your list. The museum itself opened in 2009, and is made from cutting edge glass and steel, in other words, designed to be modern.

On certain days of the year, as well as public holidays, the museum is free to enter, so plan accordingly. There is a lot to see, specifically 4 levels, of which one is dedicated to shops, a multimedia center and restaurants.

See Hephaestus Temple

On the off chance that you brought your camera, the Hephaestus Temple is a sight to behold, and many amazing photographs can be taken of it. The structure on top of Agoreao Koronos Hill, was created around 450 BC, and is still in relatively immaculate condition.

The architect that designed it also worked on the Pantheon, so there are a lot of similarities between the two. This specific temple was dedicated to the god of fire, Hephaestus.

Expand your history at Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki

Another site to visit if you are a lover of history is the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, which was built in 1962. There are many important cultural relics to be found inside the museum, which is owned by the Ministry of Culture.

Such artifacts are from Macedonia, which is amazing, since this is an ancient civilization of Greece, and plays an important role in what the culture of Greece is today.

Discover Santorini

Santorini is arguably one of the most beautiful cities you could visit in Greece, and is the perfect destination if you enjoy architecture, and want a city to visit whilst on honeymoon. Not only are there many restaurants to dine at, such as the Argo Restaurant, or Kokkalo, but the sunsets are beautiful to withhold.

More than that, Santorini contains some of the most amazing architecture in all of Greece, and the fact that a volcanic crater forms the landscape is just a bonus.

Photograph Ancient Corinth

If you want another site to photograph, then Ancient Corinth could be just what you are looking for. The architecture at the site and at the village is located in contrast to the influence of Greek and Roman culture and relics.

The site itself is very old and dates back to 3000 BC, or 8th century BC, so it has an atmosphere that can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world.

Suntan on Balos Beach

After visiting all of the sites mentioned above, you might want to just relax and do nothing, while still taking in the sun and admiring a magnificent view. If that’s the case then you are sure to enjoy Balos Beach.

There are many lagoons to swim in, and the option of renting out sunbeds whilst gazing over the crystal-clear waters. The beach can be found at Gramvousa Peninsula on the island of Crete, which is a short trip away from Kaliviani, a small village with some of the best taverns.
