Top Ways to Save on a Family Trip to NYC.

New York City is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US. There’s so much to see there, any people from across the country and abroad flock to see it. It’s easy to think of vacations in big cities as expensive ventures. Prices can be higher overall, especially if you get stuck in a tourist trap. However, a trip to NYC doesn’t have to be extravagant, and it’s an excellent place for a family getaway. If you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids, you can save on a trip to New York if you only know where to look.

Choose the Cheapest Way to Travel

Getting there is the first thing you need to do when you decide to get away. Traveling with kids can be difficult at the best of times. So deciding how you’re going to get there is important. If you live far away from NYC, your only sensible choice is going to be to fly. Unless, of course, you feel that you’re up to a family road trip. Some families will love that, while others will drive each other crazy. Even if you do decide to drive, you still have to weigh up the cost with flying. Is flying with the whole family more or less expensive than paying for gas, food, and possibly accommodation if you drive?

 Look for Accommodation Deals

Apart from travel, your accommodation is likely to be your largest expense. When you have the kids with you, it’s worth considering what type of accommodation is best. New York has a range of options, depending on how central you want to be. You could save on a hotel by looking at HotWire hotels deals and other similar websites. However, you might prefer self-catering accommodation so you have more space and can save on food. Consider finding an apartment or perhaps a suite in an extended stay hotel

 Kids Eat Free

You won’t ever run out of places to eat in New York City, which is excellent news for kids who will try anything. Eating out all the time can get expensive, though. One way to save is to look for places where kids eat for free. It’s easy to find these restaurants online, with plenty of lists you can read. You can have Southern classics at a Brother Jimmy’s or Italian at Fabbrica in Brooklyn. Or try some Asian street food at Kelley & Ping. There’s no shortage of different cuisines to try across the city.

Enjoy Free and Cheap Things to Do

Before you pay for any activities, look at all the free things there are to do in NYC. You have the whole of Central Park to explore, for example, with optional paid activities if you’re interested. If you’re a cultured family, you can check out some artwork in some of the galleries in Chelsea. Look for a public boathouse if you’re interested in going kayaking for free or hop onto the Staten Island Ferry for a boat ride.

A family trip to New York City doesn’t have to be expensive. Look for ways to save and everyone can have fun for less.
