Ready to Ride: Lighting the Way With Knog Bike Accessories
That made this a great time for us to take a closer look at a few cycling accessories we recently received from Knog.
Knog sent us three products to check out: the Blinder 1000 Front Bike Light, Cobber Reflex Adaptive Rear Bike Light, and Oi Prima Bike Bell. Each accessory serves a different purpose, but together they address three important parts of riding: seeing what is ahead, helping others see you, and letting people know when you are approaching.
Lighting the Way With the Knog Blinder 1000
The first product that immediately caught our attention was the Knog Blinder 1000 Front Bike Light.
With a maximum output of 1,000 lumens, this is much more than a small light that simply adds a little glow to the front of your bike. Knog designed the Blinder 1000 with road focused beam optics, and the light is designed to provide illumination reaching up to 100 meters.
There are also six light modes available, giving riders different options depending on the conditions and how much illumination is needed. The modes include steady and flashing options, with the Eco Flash setting offering a much longer runtime when maximum brightness is not necessary.
Another feature we appreciate is USB C charging. So many of the devices and accessories we use today have moved toward USB C, and having a rechargeable bike light means there is no need to keep replacing disposable batteries.
The Blinder 1000 is also rated IP67 waterproof and features an aluminum housing. Knog incorporates battery and charging indicators into the button, making it easier to check the light’s battery status before heading out.
Seeing the Blinder 1000 mounted on our bike really shows how nicely the light fits into the overall setup. It does not overpower the handlebars, yet once the light is illuminated, it provides a strong source of light out front.
As the days become shorter, having a dependable front bike light can be especially useful for evening rides, early morning rides, and those times when you simply end up staying out a little later than expected.
Being Seen From Behind With the Cobber Reflex Rear Bike Light
Seeing what is ahead is important, but we also want vehicles, cyclists, and others approaching from behind to be able to see us.
That is where the Knog Cobber Reflex Adaptive Rear Bike Light comes into the picture.
The bright red rear light provides up to 250 lumens. One of the features that really stands out about the Cobber design is its wide 330 degree beam arc. Instead of directing light in only one narrow direction, its curved design helps provide visibility from a much broader range of angles.
The Cobber Reflex also incorporates Knog’s Adaptive Reflex technology. The technology is designed to respond to changes in riding conditions, including speed, braking, and bike lean. For example, the light can increase its intensity when it detects that the bicycle is slowing down.
We like the idea of having a rear light that can respond to what is happening during a ride without requiring the rider to constantly make manual adjustments.
The Cobber Reflex is also USB C rechargeable and rated IP67 waterproof. It includes multiple steady and flashing modes, giving riders several choices depending on where and when they are riding.
It is a relatively small accessory, but rear visibility is something we would never overlook, especially when riding during early mornings, evenings, cloudy days, or other lower light conditions.
A Small Addition That Can Make a Difference: The Oi Prima Bike Bell
The smallest product Knog sent us may be the simplest of the three, but it definitely deserves a place in this feature.
The Knog Oi Prima Bike Bell looks quite different from the traditional dome shaped bicycle bells many of us remember.
Instead, Knog created a sleek, low profile design that wraps around the bicycle handlebar. This allows the bell to blend into the bike rather than looking like a bulky accessory that was added afterward.
The Oi Prima uses Knog’s WAVETEK hammer technology, which is designed to produce a clear and consistent chime. Knog rates the bell at more than 80 decibels.
A bicycle bell can be especially useful when riding along shared paths and trails. If you are approaching walkers, runners, families, or another cyclist, a quick bell gives you a simple and polite way to let them know you are approaching.
Knog offers the Oi Prima in different sizes to accommodate different handlebar diameters, so it is important to check your handlebar size when selecting the right version for your bike.
Three Accessories That Work Well Together
What we like about this trio from Knog is that each accessory has a completely different job.
The Blinder 1000 helps illuminate the path ahead. The Cobber Reflex helps increase visibility from behind and around the bicycle. The Oi Prima Bike Bell gives riders an audible way to announce their presence when necessary.
Together, they make a practical combination without requiring you to completely change the setup of your bicycle.
And while these products may have originally arrived with summer riding in mind, we are actually glad to be featuring them now. Fall brings cooler temperatures and some beautiful opportunities to get outdoors, but it also brings noticeably shorter days.
