In the past few years, CBD products started gaining more and more popularity. As people began to understand and embrace the medicinal value of CBD, a wide variety of products started appearing on the market. From the classic CBD oil to vaporizers, capsule pills, and topical creams. This provides consumers with options to use CBD in the way they find most convenient.

Most CBD products enter the bloodstream by being either ingested or inhaled. CBD topicals, however, act more locally, which makes them the perfect solution for treating localized pain.

Topicals also come in a variety of forms, from balms, lotions, salves, and creams, which is what we will be discussing below.

How do CBD topical creams work?

To better understand how hemp topical creams work, you must first understand what CBD actually does. To put it simply, all throughout your body, there are some receptors that interact with cannabinoids, which are some chemicals that your body naturally produces. This is called the endocannabinoid system and is responsible for regulating some very important things, such as memory, mood, appetite, pain, and the entire immune system.

Plants such as hemp and cannabis produce cannabinoids, which can interact with our own endocannabinoid system, and help better regulate all of those areas mentioned above.

When you apply CBD directly onto the skin, the cream is absorbed locally, and it binds with the cannabinoid receptors in that particular area, reducing pain or soreness. Because they act locally, topical creams are considered a much more effective way to treat localized pain than oils or capsules.

What are CBD topical creams used for?

CBD topicals can be used locally to help treat a variety of issues, from acne, eczemas, and rashes, to burns, cuts, skin infections, and, of course, pain.

CBD is known for being anti-inflammatory, and since the majority of times, pain is produced by some sort of inflammation, it has proven to be a very successful solution for pain management. This happens because, CBD helps elevate the number of cannabinoids in your body, which fight against pain.

Besides treating some more common pains, such as muscle soreness, general joint pain, or muscle fever, CBD topicals can also help alleviate a number of inflammatory conditions, such as multiple sclerosis and arthritis.

Recent studies have shown that CBD is extremely effective in reducing inflammatory pain on animals, but research is still in its infancy, so who knows what other benefits it can have?

What is the difference between creams and other CBD topicals?

At their core, all CBD topicals work the same, but they do have some particularities which can influence the way your body reacts to topicals. Consistency, for example, can influence product effectiveness, because of how fast or slow it gets absorbed into the body. Balms and salves are much thicker than creams, which makes the skin absorb them faster, but creams contain more moisturizing agents, helping not only with pain reduction but also with skin dryness.

Another aspect that you need to keep in mind is product concentration, which has to do with the potency of the product. This means that products with a higher CBD concentration will work better. The best thing, however, is to try multiple products and observe how your body reacts, before deciding on one particular kind.
