When it comes to diets and weight loss, there is one buzzword that everyone has on their lips: calories! We all know calories are the things that we need to watch out for when we are watching our weight, but is that really all there is to it? Well, it might not be all that simple. After all, calories can be complicated things! Here are all your calorie questions answered.

Are All Calories The Same?

You might be surprised to find that not all calories are created equally. For instance, your body will react to and burn a calorie from some carbs in a completely different way to how it burns a calorie from a source of protein. Because of these differences, there are some calories that are better for your body than others. In fact, this is so important that diets like the Setpoint Diet have been created to help people only consume high-quality calories. These are the ones from protein and vegetables as they keep you fuller for longer because they are more complex for the body to break down. Overall, they are a much better source of energy compared to the calories from carbohydrates.

How Much Can I Cut My Calorie Intake By?

Now, you are probably wondering how much you are able to cut your calorie intake by. Of course, you need to make sure you keep your intake to a safe amount as reducing to an unsafe level could cause you some health problems. Generally speaking, women should eat a minimum of 1,200 calories each day. If you are interested in lowering by any further, you should consult your doctor about it.

Can Any Food Ever Really Contain Zero Calories?

When you are out shopping in the grocery store, you will probably notice that there are some so-called “diet foods” that claim to have zero calories in them. One famous example is Coke Zero. But are these foods really as good as they claim to be? Sadly no, there is no wonder food that contains completely zero calories. Usually, there will be a small number of calories in these foods, but because the amount is so low, the food company can claim that there are no calories in it. Not only that, though, but these foods often have levels of artificial flavorings and preservatives to make up for the very low calorie count.

Are Calories Really The Enemy?

As you can probably tell by now, calories aren’t really the big enemy that many people claim them to be. It’s perfectly fine to eat calorific food, just as long as they are the right type of calories. If you are sourcing yours from healthy protein sources and fresh vegetables, then you won’t be going too far wrong.

Hopefully, you’ve found an answer to your burning question about calories! There is plenty more great information online, carrying out a quick Google search should bring you heaps of great resources and more info. Good luck with your health and fitness journey!
