7 Different Design Styles for Your Home

Your house is only just a house until you’re fully in love with it. When you do love it, then it becomes your home. It’s not just a place to sleep and to store your stuff. It’s an extension and direct representation of yourself.

Speaking about representing yourself, take a look around your house. Do you like every single corner? Do the curtains reflect you or your family? What about the walls? Did you paint it a color that you like, or did you skip repainting altogether?

But it isn’t just big and obvious things like the wall color or the carpet that matters. Small things like the handles on your drawer can make a difference when designing and transforming your house into a home.

Now that people are spending more time at home, we can closely observe each room’s décor and overall atmosphere. If the vibe room doesn’t help you feel relaxed, maybe it’s time to redecorate!

The first best thing to do is settle with a theme that you love and represents everyone in your home. If you’re drawing a blank on this, we have a few design styles that might resonate with you:

       1. Victorian style

Think about the decorated rooms of Buckingham Palace from The Crown. This design style is perfect for anyone who loves that luxurious look. Victorian design concepts are derived from the Victorian Period, of course. Characteristics of the era and the industrial age mix together in a glorious time capsule of a significant cornerstone in history.

But you don’t have to commit to the full-blown lavishness if it isn’t exactly up to your taste. Besides, it’s going to be unreasonably expensive to redecorate your home into a palace. Instead, take Victorian design as an inspiration for a more modern take.

     2. Minimalist

Perhaps the minimalist style is for you if you like open spaces, crisp lines, and zero clutter. This is the perfect choice for anyone who loves to keep it chic and simple. Keep the colors pleasant and neutral to make sure it looks light and free-flowing

      3. Modern

For the modern man, this is a no-brainer. It’s no-nonsense, simple, and goes well with any lifestyle. What’s great about it is that you can easily place clutter in closed storage to keep it out of sight and out of mind.

Just like the interior design style, the modern approach also uses simple colors and clean lines. Metal, steel, and glass are normally the materials used for pieces—no hard to clean detailing on furniture here.

     4. Industrial

This design style isn’t for the faint of heart, as it requires an appreciation for rawness and boldness. Featuring exposed brick, ductwork, or wood, you’ll find yourself thinking that it looks unfinished, but that’s precisely its look and charm.

Metal light fixtures, strong lines from bare posts and beams, add to that splashes of color from unique pieces of furniture and art pieces, and voila, you’ve got an industrial interior!

    5. Bohemian

After spending so much time at home, you might be missing the oceanic atmosphere. Bohemian design is refreshing as it’s a bit eclectic. But the key is to keep it flowing.

Neutral and simple earthy colors are the best choice. Think of an oasis and what kind of tones and hues pop out and what stays in the background. If you love indoor plants, going boho is the way to go. Besides, adding plants is a great way to add a pop of color in each room without making it look forced or unnatural.

Woven textures, crocheted pieces, and boldly patterned rugs are also great pieces to feature in a bohemian interior.

    6. Contemporary

If you like the modern style but don’t want to commit to it fully, the contemporary design could be your middle ground. The contemporary design makes use of modern interior design ideas and adapts them to your lifestyle. This means that you don’t have to commit to the crisp lines and neutral colors fully. It’s more fluid and forgiving because you don’t have to follow all the rules to keep it thoroughly modern.

     7. Classic traditional

Going for the traditional route relies on the furniture and other pieces you choose for your home. For example, heavy 19th-century European couches are usually used for this style. But just like contemporary design, it isn’t too strict with the pieces you choose. However, the pieces should make a statement rather than fall in the background. Layering each statement piece is excellent, but make sure that everything flows naturally. Again, keep the colors simple with neutral accents.

Conclusion

These are only a few of some popular interior designs that are in existence. Remember that it’s your home, and while there are all kinds of concepts and rules that go with each style, your home is your abode. Designing it according to what makes you happy and feel at home is the best advice from any interior decorator.
