If you are looking to save money, shopping online is often a very good option. Sometimes though, you need to make sure you are getting a good deal. Shopping online, especially for some items like Uribe jewelry, does not mean you will get the best price or quality.

Here are 5 ways to save money when buying jewelry online.

Comparison Shop

When buying jewelry online you need to shop around. This is not only related to price, but to quality. Be sure you are comparing the same type of items, and they are made of the same material, have the same style and nearly same cut of gemstones that are the same size.

Sometimes a more expensive ring is better, but it is important that you know what you are looking for and how much approximately it should cost. Also, be aware that if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is. A ring or necklace that seems much cheaper than anything similar you have seen may not be a great deal. Instead it could be low quality, or worse, fake.

Knowing what you are looking for and evaluating more than just price will keep you from making a huge mistake or from buying something you could have gotten much cheaper elsewhere because you did not do your homework.

Look for Coupons

That’s right, many sites will have coupons they offer, especially to first time customers or for limited time sales. Sometimes you can get these by simply signing up for their email updates or newsletters or by joining a shopping club or reward program.

The other option you have is to simply Google the site name and “coupons.” There are sites out there that curate coupons and discount codes for various retailers and offer current lists for them. You’ll often find out about deals you would not have otherwise been aware of by doing these simple searches.

Ask About Price Matching

See another lower price on another site? Look at the site policies, or even contact them and ask if they price match or even beat the prices of another site. Sometimes you can even get two sites who match prices or discounts into a bidding war for your business and end up getting a really good deal.

The point is, it never hurts to ask. If the site does not price match, you can always simply purchase it from the other site where you found it, but if they do, sometimes they even offer a discount on top of that, meaning you save even more money.

Read the Fine Print

Remember above when comparison shopping that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is? Often the things that make a good deal not such a good deal is the fine print.  The deal you are looking at may only be available on certain less popular sizes, or the necklace you are looking at may only be “similar to the one shown in the photo.”

The other areas that end up costing extra are shipping, handling fees, and other hidden fees like resizing that is much more expensive than if you had it done by your local jeweler. While a deal can look tempting, be careful before you hit the checkout button.

The other thing to note is the guarantee and return policies. While many reputable online jewelry sites have great return and guarantee policies, some of the smaller ones may not, and they may even have a no-returns policy regardless of whether you like the items you purchased or not.

This fine print can kill a good deal, so be careful.

Be Patient

An impulsive buy when it comes to jewelry is rarely a good one. Be sure you know exactly what you’re getting and when, that you have searched around for the best deal, and that you are sure about what you want.

Jewelry is often a big investment and knowing what you have and what it is really worth is important. You can save money shopping for it online by following these five tips and using some common sense.
