4 SIGNS THAT YOUR MAIN SEWER LINE IS BLOCKED

A leaking tap is undoubtedly the most common plumbing issue most people face, and it can be dealt with efficiently. But other, more severe problems could lead to more significant matters, such as a blocked main sewer line causing dirty water to remain stagnant, posing a health risk.

That’s why it is essential that you contact a main line plumber the instant you realize you are dealing with a blockage in the main drainage. If you neglect the issue for too long, it could cost you more in repair and replacements, besides being a health hazard.

Here are the most prominent signs that indicate you have a blocked main line problem that needs immediate attention.

  • Frequently clogged drains

Drain lines are different from the main sewer line and may not always be connected. However, if they are connected, and you notice that almost all of them are frequently clogging, it could be an issue with the main line. For instance, you will see your laundry, toilet, and other plumbing lines being blocked simultaneously. Drainage systems are vital to your home’s effective functioning, so this issue must be addressed immediately.

  • Gurgling sounds

If you hear gurgling sounds whenever you flush or use another drain in your house, it could be a massive sign that something is wrong with the main sewer line. There could be a blockage in the main sewer line due to dirt, debris, or iron-oxidizing bacteria in the pipeline.

Sometimes, if there is a large tree near the main drain line, its roots could also cause the line to become clogged. It’s a problem that typically happens with old plumbing systems and must be solved immediately before the roots grow further into the pipes.

  • Slow draining

Even when the drain lines aren’t completely blocked, there will be other indicators, such as extremely slow draining. You will observe that your kitchen or bathroom sinks, bathtubs, and toilets will drain a lot slower than usual. There may also be toilet overflow issues besides slow drains. These are surefire signs that there is a blockage problem with your main sewer line.

  • Cleanout overflow

A sewer cleanout is a critical pipe that is directly connected to the main sewer line of your drainage system. It gives access to plumbers to easily clear any blockages. The cleanout pipe is generally located in the basement or outside the house in most homes. It is marked by a rectangular or round, colored cap. If you find sewage standing in the cleanout area or even leaking out of it, you most likely have a main line clog.

What to do in such cases

The best and most effective way to deal with this issue is to hire a main line plumber. Look for agencies that have experienced staff, reasonable rates, and provide services on the weekend. That’s because sewer lines can get blocked any time, and you need someone willing to come at a moment’s notice.

These are professionals who deal with blocked drains and sewer lines every day and will be able to tell you quickly what the issue is with your line.

Besides checking reviews online, you can also ask your friends and acquaintances for references to find dependable plumbing companies.
