The IIHS found that backing up accidents have led to:

• 18,000 injuries
• 300 deaths

Thankfully, the speed at which a person backs up is far lower than when driving forward, so the number of deaths is much lower than injuries.

Backup cameras are a very useful addition to every vehicle, and the technology provides you with a viewing angle that you might not have had otherwise.

3. Forward Collision Warning Systems

Forward collision warnings are in a lot of luxury vehicles, but the technology is becoming available in more vehicles every year. These systems will provide audible alerts to drivers that tell them when they’re too close to someone in front of them.

And some of these systems have automatic braking applications, too.

When the brake automatically engages, it will stop the vehicle to prevent a potential accident. This technology can greatly reduce accidents. 4. Adaptive Headlights

Automatic headlights are a great advancement, but now the technology has improved even further. Adaptive headlights are now a thing. These headlights actually pivot in your direction of travel, increasing visibility around corners.

Adaptive headlights don’t provide the same safety impact as other technology on this list, but it’s still a great advancement in automobile safety.

Studies show that property damage claims have been reduced by 10% thanks to adaptive headlights. High-end vehicles, such as Mazda, Acura and Mercedes, are making use of adaptive headlights.

There is also high-beam assist technology that’s being implemented into some of these adaptive headlight systems.

High-beam assist will increase visibility drastically, making it safer to drive at night.
