3 Ways to Dress Up Your Living Room

So, you’re ready to improve the look of your living room. You don’t have to overhaul the entire room’s decor just to change it up a bit or add flare. We are going to cover three things that will change the whole feel of the room. You can choose just one of these elements or all three for a dramatic makeover.

 Window Treatments

Window treatments are a must. The first step for choosing the right treatment depends on the space. If your room is smaller with small windows or not very many, these need to make the room larger.

First, natural light is important to make the room feel larger. Sheer or light-colored panels are the way to go. There are tricks to make the windows look larger. Your curtain rod should extend well beyond the window. Your panels are going to be place at the edge of the widow, but will only cover the wall, not the window. Your full window will be expose, making it look like you have much larger windows.

If you have a larger room, you can opt for darker panels to warm the room up. The window treatments still need to be hung the same way though. Since the room is larger, you can add a valance for a more dramatic look.

Floor Treatments

Floor treatments make a huge difference. This is a good choice if you aren’t handy. Hanging curtains can me a real pain. Luckily, you can roll a rug out and you’re done. For your rug, you want to choose a sturdy, beautifully designed rug. If you have hardwood floors, this will change not only the rug, but the sound too. Hardwood floors, especially if there aren’t window treatments, can make the room have a bit of an echo. Adding a rug will absorb some of the sound, making the room sound much cozier.

Statement Pieces

If you already have window treatments and the perfect rug, but want a way to dress the room up, we have you covered. You need a statement piece. This can be a bold sofa, a funky chair, or a unique coffee table. Have fun with this piece. This piece of furniture will become the focal point of your room. Don’t be afraid to play with color and pattern.

Remember to take the sound of your room into consideration when you are choosing what you want to change. The echoey sound will make the room fill a bit cold and empty. Just by adding window treatments or a rug, can change that instantly. If you change all three elements at once, you will feel like it’s a completely different room. If you only change or add one element you will still notice a big improvement.
