Three Simple Ways to Show You’re Thinking of Someone: COVID Edition
The pandemic has been a tough time for the entire world — we’ve been locked away in our homes without the ability to safely see our loved ones for what seems like forever. Mind says that loneliness can have a negative impact on our mental health; this is especially true if someone has been experiencing loneliness for a long period of time (like a year-long pandemic). If someone is on your mind but you can’t physically see them due to the world’s strange circumstances, we’d like to share a few simplistic ways that will brighten a loved one’s day. Here are some thoughtful ways to show someone you’re thinking of them so they can feel a little less lonely during these bizarre times:
1.Pick up the Phone
If you’re thinking about someone — there’s truly no better time to pick up the phone and give them a call. You could tell them that you were just thinking about them to ensure that you make them feel extra special. You could recall memories you made together prior to the pandemic and/or catch up on the eventful (or lack thereof) life you’ve been leading since you’ve last connected with them.
While hearing a friend’s voice that you haven’t heard in awhile is a heart-warming feeling, it’s even better if you’re also able to see their face. We’re lucky enough to have technology that allows us to instantly connect with our loved ones whenever we’d like. You should take full advantage of this luxury whenever possible!
2. Suggest an Activity To Do Together
Even though you may not be able to spend time with someone in-person, you could certainly plan an activity that will allow you to connect with one another virtually. You could suggest a book, podcast, or movie that you could enjoy together. There are applications like Zoom and/or Skype that allow you to watch movies simultaneously — while socially distanced from the comfort of your own homes! It’s important to make time to connect with the people who are important to you in whatever way you can.
Mental Health Foundation emphasizes the importance of using technology to connect with those we care about; it’s especially important to reach out to the people who live alone at this time. You could really make a difference if you simply invite a friend to have a movie marathon for an evening. What about gathering some friends together to meet up for a weekly virtual book club? Everyone could take the time to enjoy the book while checking-in with each other on a regular basis.
3. Send a Care Package
It’s always lovely to receive a surprise gift in the post! Consider sending a thoughtful care package to brighten someone’s day. The Pick Me Up Care Package from Box Sized Hugs was designed to lift someone’s spirits as the package includes self-care items, snacks, and encouraging cards. The adorable package will remind the recipient that you truly care about their happiness and wellbeing. If you don’t have much extra time on your hands because you’re busy working from home, you could still show someone you’re thinking of them by sending a pre-made care package that they’ll love.
