Did you experience a slip and fall accident while on vacation or at a local place of business? Were you severely injured and traumatized by the ordeal? If the manager told you it was your fault and that you’re responsible for all of your medical and personal care costs, that may not necessarily be the case. The best way to resolve the issue is to first take care of yourself and then call an attorney to see if you have any legal recourse. Here are just a few tips on how to move forward past a serious slip and fall injury.

Get Legal Help

After you’ve been able to evaluate your injuries and how exactly it has affected your lifestyle, it’s time to call a reputable attorney who specializes in slip and fall accidents. He will discuss the incident or fall with you and go over what led up to it, how it happened and how management responded. It’s important that if you did fall, that you document everything as precisely as possible. This will help your attorney to prove the company’s negligence in the matter. Some personal injury attorneys in Bronx, NY suggest that in order to file a complaint with the courts, you’ll have to prove the following:

  • *That you were injured through no fault of your own.
  • *That the establishment or property you were on was careless or negligent in regards to the safety of others.
  • *That management did not respond quickly enough or in benefit to your overall safety.

Because slip and fall or injury cases can be intricate and complicated, an attorney who specializes in these types of cases is who you need to call. Your attorney will be able to discuss the incident without sacrificing your rights and get you the compensation or reimbursement of medical costs that you deserve.

Call Your Creditors

When you become injured and unable to work, the first thing to suffer is your bank account. From there, it’s only a matter of time before you can’t pay your mortgage and your credit card bills fall by the wayside. Until your lawsuit goes through or you can get back to work and get your income flowing again, you’ll need to deal with your creditors head on. They won’t go away and if you ignore their calls, your legal matters are only beginning to take over.

Initially, one of the first actions you need to take is calling them and telling them exactly what happened. If you’re a customer in good credit standing, they may be able to defer your payments and avoid reporting any late payments to the credit reporting agencies. It may also prevent harsh collection practices from occurring such as repossession, foreclosure, or default judgment.

Physical Therapy

If you’ve suffered a serious injury, hopefully you’ve already received prompt medical care. One thing that the doctor may likely have recommended was physical therapy. This will help you rebuild your muscles and support areas where the injury has occurred. If you’re still in the hospital, you may be getting a broad range of therapy, including aquatic therapy, occupational therapy and others forms that target your specific needs. Regaining muscle strength, range of motion, and flexibility will help get you back on your feet or help improve your lifestyle in both small and big ways.

Stay Connected With Others

Suddenly and unexpectedly becoming injured can leave a negative impact on your emotional health. It can be hard to deal with the emotions that you’re not as healthy as you once were before the accident happened. This can take a toll on your lifestyle. That’s why it’s important to stay connected with others—especially those who are there to help.

In addition to having a good support system, don’t forget to take care of your mental health. Set up an appointment with a counselor or psychologist who can offer mental health support that will help guide you through the new emotions and depression that often coincides with a new injury or illness.

An unforeseen accident can be scary and also challenging. Taking it one day at a time and getting the right support will make it easier to cope with.

  • These are great tips and I certainly never thought of calling my creditors. I’m a little sad that the first action mentioned was to seek legal counsel. I’d like to believe we can be decent enough people to try to handle our business without jumping straight to the legal process.
