Can you believe we are entering into the Fall Season! Wow! Seems like these seasons are flying by so fast, but don’t let the season fly by without getting out with the kids. It’s vital that no matter what the season is our children should get out and enjoy the weather.
This past weekend it been a bit chilly; however, it didn’t stop Daniel and his football. He grabbed his jacket, ball, his dog, and they all went outdoors for hours. You see, keeping the kids active is a must. Children these days don’t appear to spend as much time outdoors anymore with all those gadgets out now.

Back when my siblings and I were growing up my parents made sure we spent lots of time outdoors. We couldn’t be couch potatoes, nor could we spend hours on devices that weren’t out. If we weren’t in the backyard playing, then we were at the park, zoo, or skating on the sidewalk. Oh the fun!!

TV sitcoms didn’t consume us until it was dark outside. I’ve even taught my children this as they were growing. We even took strolls at night, so we could enjoy the cool air rushing passed our faces.

TV and gadgets shouldn’t dominate their lives from enjoying outdoors. I only wish this generation understood how important it is to play outdoors. Not only is it important, but it’s great for bonding–especially since our time is limited due to school and work.

Many of us parents will be meeting up this weekend for a mom and kids outdoor activity playdate by my home. We are baking a few snack too.

I definitely would recommend joining a playdate group in hopes of getting the kids out more during the fall and winter season. Hey, playing on a playground shouldn’t stop when you get older! Even now I still love to swing and slide! Plus, I enjoy seeing the smiles on my kids face when I do those things.

Now let me pose this question to you? Will you take away those gadgets and allow your children to enjoy playing outdoors? Don’t hold back because the season has changed. Bundle up and enjoy the weather, don’t let the televisions, computers and cell phones taunt them to stay indoors get those kids out.

International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) and the Voice of Play want to promote activities and ideas that get kids – and parents – outside.  What better way to do this than by celebrating the fall and winter season by getting outdoors!

The “Voice of Play” is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds. Through the Voice of Play website and social media properties, IPEMA highlights the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits of play.
