With interest rates rising and the government shutdown looming many people who had been thinking about building a new home from a company like SEDA are now pondering home improvement instead. But, most of us aren’t exactly skilled in the art of home renovation. Fortunately, not all projects need a degree in construction engineering in order to make an impact without breaking the bank. If you’re a fan of DIY projects and you’re looking to get into renovating your home but aren’t looking to spend a fortune, you’re in luck. The following DIY products are right up your alley:

  1. Repaint Your Walls

One of the quickest ways to give your home a makeover is to repaint the walls. Whether you want to change the color, or you’d just enjoy a fresh coat of paint, this is one DIY project that is quite simple to complete. If you want an expert job on a budget, do a bit of renovation recon by learning how to paint your walls properly.

When painting your walls, you’ll need:

  • Towels and rags
  • Brushes
  • Rollers and extension poles
  • 5-gallon bucket and a paint tray
  • Paint respirator
  • Ladder
  • Painter’s tape
  • Primer and paint
  • Sandpaper and spackle

Cost: Around $150 depending on the size of the room

  1. Install a Stair Runner

If your stairs are particularly slippery or you’d like to personalize your look a bit more, your next DIY project should involve installing a DIY runner. While carpeting them is an option, the cheaper alternative is to put a runner in yourself.

To install your runner, you’ll need:

  • Two runners (Depending on the size of your staircase)
  • Electric stapler

Cost: Around $300

  1. Paint the Floor

After painting your walls, you may still be in the mood to use up the rest of your paint. While you may not think to paint your floors, doing so is a great way to freshen them up. Take things to the next level by painting the floor in a pattern.

For this project, you can use the same materials you needed to paint the walls.

Cost: Around $75 or less

  1. Make Indoor Shutters to Add Privacy

If you’ve looked into customized window treatments, you already know how expensive they can be. If you want to be financially savvy, take on the task of creating your own DIY window shutters. Use these shutters to personalize your home even more and add some much-needed privacy.

These swinging wooden shutters are quite beautiful. Leave them open on a pleasant day or close them to take advantage of their shade on sunny days and or to block out any winter winds during the colder months.

For this project, gather the following:

  • Wood boards
  • Wood filler
  • Tee hinges
  • Brad nailer
  • Wood glue
  • Driver/drill
  • Drill bits
  • Stir stick and paint roller
  • Paint
  • Sanding sponge
  • Table saw and miter saw

Cost: Around $150

Having the opportunity to redesign your space is what home ownership is all about. Take these projects into consideration the next time the DIY spirit strikes you.
