Know which Food to Avoid

This must sound normal to you, but it’s an extremely important factor to consider for a thyroid patient. Keep away from processed foods that are packed with preservatives and sugar, dyes, or sugar-free substitutes. You must know that processed food has trans fats, refined sugar, MSG, and high fructose syrup that can lead to intestinal inflammation and automatically trigger flare-ups.

This is not exactly related to the thyroid, but it can affect several parts of the body. Instead, one must go for a diet including fresh veggies like cabbage, watercress, cauliflower, kohlrabi, kale, and sprouts. They are packed with efficient vitamins and nutrients for you and have folate as well. But never eat them raw as it can be messy for your thyroid.

Ask your Consultant about Supplements

There is a good connection between thyroid health care and iodine. It becomes important for the synthesis of certain thyroid hormones. However, you must visit a thyroid naturopath or probably your consultant before resorting to any supplement.

You must know that iodine deficiency leads to enlargement of thyroid glands and supplementation in foods like bread and dairy, and table salt might be beneficial. But too much iodine again can affect hyperthyroidism in some individuals. So before getting any supplement for your thyroid regulation, always consult your doctor.  Vitamin D can also be a good supplement for regulating your body well and keeping control of your immune system. Check your vitamin D levels and work on that as well.

Avoid Environmental Toxins

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has made it clear that long-term exposure to disruptors like chemicals that usually interfere with your body’s endocrine system and trigger related problems in human bodies. Some of these toxins can be perfluorinated chemicals or PFCs found in carpets, waterproof clothing, and non-stick cookware as well. These chemicals are linked to thyroid problems, studies have shown that. Exposure to phthalates found in soft plastics could also cause disruptions in hormone levels related to the thyroid.
