Dolce & Gabbana Bring Diversity to the Runway with Ashley Graham
Milan Fashion Week Women’s Collection for autumn/winter 2023/24 was more than a celebration of iconic fashion. Dolce & Gabbana brought diversity and inclusion to the runway highlighting striking models with the right amount of balance on the catwalk. The stunning Ashley Graham was one of the top representatives of curvy gorgeousness in a plunging red dress that sent a strong message. Ms. Graham is one of the select plus-size models featured during the event. She symbolizes healthiness in fashion and a reminder never to discriminate or misjudge.
Dolce & Gabbana and Plus Size Models
Ashley Graham led the way as the 1990s ‘supers’ walkers took to the runways in 2018 for Dolce & Gabbana. It was an inauguration of hosting plus-size models in the Italian capital of Milan. Ms. Graham was an inspiration dressed in stunning figure-hugging animal print. She was looking fierce as she represented everything she stands for. The Italian fashion brand currently features campaigns including plus-sizes and has expanded its clothing size range to be more inclusive of all body types.
Ashley Graham’s Achievements
In 2017 she wrote her first book, A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, and Power Really Look Like. The stunning plus-size supermodel appeared as a judge on America’s Next Top Model and has her own lingerie and swimwear line. Her multiple runway shows and magazine covers worldwide gave her the perfect platform to showcase her style and beauty.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Fashion Week in Milan
The luxury fashion scene captivates audiences internationally, with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana standing front and center. The Italian duo are undoubtedly the best tailors in the world, creating memorable moments from New York to Paris and Milan. Dolce & Gabbana’s autumn/winter 2023/24 show celebrated designs of old Hollywood, featuring classic black Italian designs and appearances in all red to accommodate a vast selection of wearables for next winter. The “Sensual” collection of sheer black dresses with furry collars and long black gloves created wardrobe must-haves for the coming year.
Ashley Graham’s Pledge to Advocacy
Ashley Graham is an American model whose career began in 2000. The body-positive model advocates for movements such as Health at Every Size and was the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, challenging traditional beauty standards and gaining prominence in the industry. As a vocal critic regarding fashion’s lack of diversity, Ms. Graham works tirelessly to remain a force in the industry to change the narrative around body image and beauty.
Diversity in Dolce & Gabbana
The Italian fashion brand is sincere in fostering progression in the industry. Working with plus-size models like Ashley Graham is a sign that diversity lies in the DNA of Dolce & Gabbana. Ms. Graham is the perfect fit with her dangerous curves and tenacity, sending a powerful message that everyone looks fantastic in Dolce & Gabbana clothing. Following the show, Ashley was excited to share photos and videos of the event on Instagram with her fans, creating a buzz that continues to send the message of inclusion.
