8 Ways To Look After Yourself During Pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a wonderful time. It’s the beginning of a whole new chapter of your life.  It can also be very demanding. Your body is going through so many changes as you grow a new little person. It takes a lot of energy and brings its own set of challenges.

There are lots of preparations to make before your baby is born. Mothers have a tendency to focus all their energy on ensuring their baby is safe and receives the best possible start in life. But is equally as important to take care of yourself.

  1. Drink Enough Water

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking enough water each day. This is important for everyone but particularly if you’re pregnant. It may also help to relieve some nausea symptoms.

2. Rest And Sleep Often

The changes that are occurring in your body will use a lot of energy. You’ll find that you tire more easily. Try to take regular breaks, even if it’s just for ten minutes. Go to bed early and get as much sleep as you can.

     3. Eat A Healthy Diet

During pregnancy, it is important to eat a healthy and balanced diet. Opt for protein-rich foods. It is important to keep your blood sugar levels balanced during pregnancy. Obtain a list of foods to avoid from your doctor.

    4. Exercise

Try to keep up with your usual level of physical activity for a long as it feels comfortable. The more active and fit you are, the easier you will be able to cope with the strains of pregnancy. But it’s important not to exhaust yourself or overdo it. If you weren’t particularly active before you became pregnant, don’t embark on a strenuous routine. Ask your doctor for advice. Good quality maternity activewear will help you feel comfortable during your workouts.

    5. Vitamins and Supplements

Speak to your doctor about taking vitamins and supplements.

Avoid alcohol during pregnancy. Even as small drink will reach your baby through your bloodstream. Alcohol can increase your child’s risk of developing several problems.

       7. Look After Your Mind

During pregnancy, it is important to look after your mind as well as your body. Pregnancy can be a busy time, and there is certainly lots to think about. For some women, it can be stressful as they worry about the birth and what to expect when their child is born. It is important to minimize stress as much as possible.  Consider a gentle exercise such as yoga, which concentrates on the mind and body. Or try something like meditation. It is important to let any instructors know that you’re pregnant before you try any physical exercise. Also, ask your doctor for advice.

          8.  A Little TLC

Your body will be changing in all kind of ways. While this is a wonderful thing, you are likely to feel tired and emotional. It’s important to be kind to yourself. Treat yourself often. This could be a simple as a magazine or a bunch of flowers. Or it could be taking the time to have a bubble bath and reading your book for an hour.

 

Embrace this time as much as possible. It’s a special time for you and your baby. And it passes all too quickly.
