3 Ways to Make Extra Money as a Stay-at-Home Parent.

Stay-at-home moms and dads can help with their family’s finances. People are making money at-home. Jobs are now turning to telecommuting because it lowers overhead and keeps employees happy. It’s a sensible transition for businesses, and for the stay-at-home parent, there are more opportunities than ever to make extra money.

Statistics show that more dads are staying at-home, and 71% of moms in the U.S. work outside of the home.

But if you want to work at-home, you do have ample options available.

1. Freelance Writing

If you have a talent for writing, you can make a lot of money writing for businesses and blogging. You’ll find a lot of people saying $45 for 2,000 words is great – it’s not. You can make a living writing, but don’t settle for pennies.

All you need is a word processor and an Internet connection to get started.

You can try selling your services on freelance websites, including:

·         https://www.upwork.com/

·         https://www.guru.com

·         http://www.textbroker.com/

The great thing about being a freelance writer is that you don’t need any cash to get started. There are plenty of free opportunities to land work and start making money.

2. Tutoring

Tutors can make a ton of money. Find a subject you’re good in, and you’ll be able to teach it to someone else. I’m going to use the example of a math tutor. You can tutor people at your own home, and you can make $12 – $85+ an hour depending on the subject and your credentials.

The hardest part is landing your first student.

How can you find people to pay for your services? This will take a little work. A few options include:

·         Post flyers at local schools

·         Advertise in the paper

·         Promote to your network (use social media to spread the word)

When you land your first student, you’ll be able to ask them for referrals and start using word of mouth even further.

Virtual tutoring is also becoming very popular, and the option to tutor students virtually means there is a larger audience to promote yourself to than ever before.

3. Virtual Assistant

If you like busy work, you can opt to become a virtual assistant. You’ll be tasked with a lot of different jobs, and these jobs can include anything, such as:

·         Data entry

·         Research

·         Website tweaks

·         Writing

·         Making calls

You can choose to use specialty talents to charge more, too. If you have any familiarity with web design, you can offer website tweaks and customization.

Fancy Hands, is a great place to get started.

You just need to sign up, and you’ll be paid $3 – $7 per task. Tasks are often short and last 20 minutes or less. On the high-end, you can make $20+ an hour by working as an assistant. What I like about this site, and there are many like it, is that you will do easy work.

Data entry, looking for the best price for a product or service or schedule appointments. You can even make money by calling service providers and haggling for a lower price.
