Need a Change? Start With Your Hair.

Getting stuck in a rut is easy, getting out of said rut can be hard. This is especially true when it comes to your own personal look and style. While everyone is entitled to their own expression of themselves, let’s face it, sometimes that expression can begin to feel dated.

Making changes to your look doesn’t have to be too drastic and it should certainly never be stressful. Standing in the middle of a clothing store frantically trying to decide which outfit will work for you is not the best approach. Taking things slow and working with a professional is the best way to begin to implement change.

So let’s start with your hair. Perhaps you’ve had the same hair style for years or maybe you just don’t know how to style your hair in the way you’d like. No matter the reason, pay a visit to a professional stylist and explore your options. They will be as happy to help you make your change as you are.

Start With a Cut

Simply going to the salon and getting a trim every six weeks isn’t going to cut it if you want to make a visible change. To achieve that you’ll need to do something a little more different. It might be simple to say that if your hair is long you should just cut it all off. While this definitely works for some and pixie cuts are adorable, others might not be ready to hack off a foot of their hair.

Visit your stylist and have a frank discussion. They’ll know what type of cut and style suits not only your face but your personality. The answer may be to add in some long layers or to implement some blunt bangs on a bob cut. Regardless, take your time, ask questions, and ensure that you’re satisfied before you leave the salon.

Try Hair Extensions

People with longer hair definitely have more options when it comes to a new style, but those with shorter hair have more choices than ever before. Hair extensions have come a long way and are now made to be more durable and safer for your natural hair than ever before.

If you’re not yet 100 percent committed to lengthening your hair, then clip-in extensions are perfect for you. You can easily apply them by yourself and see how you feel. If you like the look of longer, fuller hair then you could decide to try something more permanent.

Consult a professional about getting extensions, as there are different types that work best for different types of hair. The application process can be long, but fortunately the maintenance process has been greatly simplified over the years. Some varieties only need to be moved back to the root of your hair every 6 to 8 weeks, making this a relatively easy way to keep your hair as long as you’d like.

Change Your Color

Many people color their hair on a regular basis. Whether it’s to cover gray or to add richness to dull hair, color is one of the easiest and most popular ways to change your look. However, if you’re looking for something to really turn heads you can make dramatic changes to your color or even subtle ones that can make a big difference.

Color trends change all the time, but one of the most popular right now is the multi colored look. Rainbow hair, mermaid hair, space hair, and other styles incorporate shades of red, blue, green, yellow, and more to create a very dramatic effect. You’ll need to seek out an expert for this style and the colors do tend to fade, but it’s worth it.

For something a little more conservative you could add subtle red highlights to brunette hair or platinum highlights to darker blonde locks. Professional colorists can help you choose the right shades for your skin tone and hair style and the process usually only takes a few hours. Additionally, the color formulas used today actually condition your hair, giving you lots of shine and body.

Changing your look is fun and almost always gives you a boost of confidence. Talk with a professional and decide just how dramatic you want your change to be, and then go for it. You might find yourself feeling like a whole new person.
