How to choose the perfect mirror for your bathroom

Choosing a mirror for your bathroom may seem simple at first but when it comes time to buy a mirror you will find that there are many options out there. Some of these options include the size, shape and functionality of the mirror.

Today we will explain all of the different types of mirrors and then you will have a better idea of the best mirror for your bathroom. So, let’s jump straight into it.

Think about the size of the mirror

Mirrors come in every size you can imagine. To pick the correct size for your home you should follow some simple rules. A mirror should be smaller or the same width as the sink unit below it. If you are using a vanity unit then adjust the size to fit the unit. If you are using a double sink or double vanity unit you can either use one large mirror or two smaller mirrors.

The height of a mirror is down to the size of the person that is using it. As a general rule, a mirror should be at least one foot below and one foot above a person’s eye line. You will need to use this rule when picking out a mirror for your bathroom.

You can also use a mirror that fills the entire wall if your bathroom is big enough for it to work.

Shapes of bathroom mirrors

The sizes of bathroom mirrors can vary but so can the shapes of them too. You can get round, square, rectangle and oval-shaped mirrors. Each of these different shapes of mirrors will have a different effect on your bathroom.

Rectangle mirrors for example are the most common types of bathroom mirrors and will blend into your bathroom design as the shape will be similar to your tiles and other fixtures. Oval or circle mirrors on the other hand disrupt the lines in your bathroom and give a much softer feel.

Softer mirrors are better used in bathrooms where you want to feel relaxed in. Mirrors can also come in framed and unframed options. Unframed mirrors tend to look more modern whereas framed look like classic mirrors.

Different types of mirrors

Bathroom mirrors come in different types which can add to their functionality.  LED mirrors for example are useful for those who tend to put their makeup or beauty products on in the bathroom.

Other mirrors can come with functionality that demists them. This is very useful because having a mirror that always steams up isn’t useful at all. These types of mirrors are known as demister bathroom mirrors and if you are getting a mirror soon they will save you time and effort from having to wipe down your mirror every time you have a bath.

If you need more storage in your bathroom you may want to pick a bathroom mirror with inbuilt storage. Bathrooms can get messy quite quickly with all of the beauty products people use so having somewhere to put them will allow you to keep your bathroom clean and clutter-free. Bathroom mirrors with storage are both practical and stylish.

Another type of bathroom mirror that you may come across is the shaving mirror. Shaving mirrors are much smaller than a typical mirror and can often be moved to get the best angles to shave from.

Bathroom shaving mirrors are useful but if you don’t have enough space you may want to get a mirror with a magnification spot built-in. Built-in magnification spots on mirrors remove the need for a separate shaving mirror and offer you functionality and style without compromising on the space needed for two mirrors.

Additional things to take into consideration

As with all furniture in the bathroom you will need to take time to plan the best layout for your bathroom along with the best fixtures and fittings to go in it. If you already have a combination vanity unit or a double unit then you could go for smaller mirrors, and lighting built into the wall and be happy with it. You could also use an illuminated bathroom mirror and not need any additional lighting.

Designing your bathroom can take time but if you put the effort into researching the best way of making the most out of your room then you are going to have a smoother time when renovating your bathroom.

Our final tip would be to consult with an expert to see what types of mirrors you can have in your bathroom. Some walls in your home may not be strong enough to support a larger mirror so checking first will allow you to get the mirror which will fit in your home.
