Best Ways to Spend Halloween Season With the Family

For many, Halloween is one of the most exciting times of the year. You get to dress up, mingle with friends and family, and eat some delicious candy. If you’re tired of the same routine of sitting at home and waiting for trick-or-treaters, why not spice up your family Halloween experience?

Halloween celebration doesn’t have to be just one day—there are numerous Halloween activities the whole family can enjoy for the whole month of October. From visiting spooky haunted houses to baking mouth-watering treats, here are some of the best ways to spend the Halloween season with the family.

1) Visit a Real Haunted House

Are you looking to add more thrills to the spookiest season of the year? Nothing will get you into a more spooky mood than visiting a real-life haunted house.

There are plenty of ways you can view haunted locations safely. One option is to participate in a guided ghost tour. Companies like US Ghost Adventures bring their guests to some of the most famous haunted locations in America. No need to worry about kids as there are various child-friendly sites in most cities.

Not only will you get to experience some haunted thrills, but you may also learn some history about each location.

2) Whip Up Some Spooky and Delicious Halloween Treats

Studies show that cooking can help bring families closer together. What better way to enjoy bonding in the kitchen than cooking some delicious Halloween-themed treats?

Some popular items are:

  • Cookies
  • Caramel popcorn
  • Cake
  • Cupcakes
  • Brownies

You can add a nice Halloween twist to virtually any meal, no matter what your taste-buds are craving. Make sure to get a good variety of everything, and share extras with any trick-or-treaters.

3) Design and Decorate a Spooky Room

One excellent way to get the whole family involved in the Halloween fun is to design and decorate a spooky room. Designate one of the rooms in your home for the project, and let everyone contribute props and decorations.

You don’t have to break the bank on this one either. Some simple paper cutouts or cheap store-bought decorations will do the trick. You can allocate tasks to each member of the family to make it more engaging.

Once finished, use the spooky room to take some funny and scary family photos.

4) Make a Scary Home Movie

Let’s face it—we all love a good scary movie. However, watching a film that you’ve made with your family is an unmatched Halloween experience. You can make a fun found footage movie using only your smartphone.

Freaky found footage is a common trope in horror films, from The Ring to Sinister. Now you can join in the fun and frights by creating your own footage.

Assign everyone in the house roles. Someone can be the director, camera operator, villain, hero, etc. Then come up with a freaky tale as a family and lights, camera, action!

Once your movie is complete, you can save it and re-watch it next year.

Conclusion

The best part of Halloween is you don’t have to put in a lot of money or effort to enjoy the spooky holiday. With a bit of creativity, you can create an outstanding October experience for the whole family to enjoy. Try one or all the ideas above if you want to make your Halloween memorable this year.
