Shwings ~ My Little Pony
Shwings. Makes old shoes new. Makes new shoes fly.
I’m dating myself here but I have a five-year-old and I was born in the 1980s. The early 1980s … okay, I was born in 1980! Growing up, some of the cool toys that I played with included Cabbage Patch Kids, Rainbow Brite, Play-Doh, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT), Care Bears, and My Little Pony … just to name a few. My mom always said that trends tend to make their way back around. I didn’t believe her until I became a mommy and have sat back watching my little one enjoy the same characters and toys that I did when I was a child. By the way, this is totally creepy!
My little one LOVES My Little Pony. She thinks they are “tots adorbs” (I hope I spelled that right) and she likes to name them off one by one when we watch My Little Pony movies; they are all over YouTube! Me, I just sit back in awe because there are so many new ponies. Most I have never heard of. For some reason, she isn’t as nearly as impressed that I can name all of the TMNT and most of the Care Bears. I swear … everyone is a critic.
So what does this have to do with anything? Everything!
Growing up, everything was about clothes. The brands, the colors, the style! This was how people identified who belonged to each “group.” I think that is what we called them … hmmm… maybe it was clicks. Anyway, it was all about clothes. Apparently times are changing. Recently, my twelve-year-old niece informed me that a kid’s level of popularity is defined by their shoes. I think the brand, color, and style still plays a role but I’m not really sure. She started talking about how much the “cool” shoes cost that I lost my train of thought and just saw dollar signs floating around in my head.
I see myself as a halfway normal parent. I want my daughter to be happy, I want her to be intelligent, and I want her to have friends. Unfortunately, for her, I am not willing to break the bank just to help her, her father and I don’t plan on breaking the bank for shoes to help her friend status. Lucky for her, there is a company that may prove to be her saving grace.
SHWINGS!
Founded in 2012 by a father and son team, Shwings and Things, Inc. set out on an adventure to share the fun in life with cool, affordable accessories. The company started out with accessories (wings) in twelve unique colors and has since grown to over 150 styles in an array of fun shapes and colors.
They reason they may be our family’s saving grace is because they specialize in SHOE accessories. Some of their products are designed to turn lace up shoes into slip-ons and some are designed to bring bling to shoes; both new and old. What this means, especially to parents, is that your little, or not so little one, one can change the look of their shoes without spending a fortune.
Shwings has gained worldwide popularity as a fun, affordable brand for people of all ages and been featured in publications such as Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Parents. They have also been spotted being sported by trendsetting celebrity kids such as Gwen Stefani’s boys and David and Victoria Beckham’s sons.
More importantly, at least in our home, in 2014 the team acquired a license for My Little Pony. This means the sky opened up, the angels sang, and my daughter felt like a kid in the candy store as she looked over the variety of My Little Pony accessories that Shwing has to offer.
At the ripe old age of five, my daughter is not yet a full-fledged diva but she is definitely a trend setter that cares about her hair, clothes, and shoes. Sometimes they don’t match but I’ve never seen anyone rock a winter boot and a ballet flat like she does! She has been wearing her Shwings to school, where matching gym shoes are required, and apparently she is all the rage. All of the moms have been asking where she got her cute little My Little Pony “shoe thingies,” it’s a technical term. Come to think of it, I don’t think most of the moms have talked to me this much all year. Hmmm… anyway … It is with ease that this momma says the company has remained true to their original mission. They inspire people to have fun and express their individuality with fashionable, affordable accessories.
Shwings bring smiles to people’s faces and fill them with a warm fuzzy feeling – life is FUN!
