Gorgeous Living Room Design Tips on a Budget.
We all want our house to be the best it can; we don’t all have the money to splash out on expensive interior design. With the lounge being one of the most used rooms in the house, we thought it would be a good idea to research some gorgeous design tips for those on a budget. Enjoy!
Walls and Floors
You don’t have to spend a fortune revamping your living room, as long as you focus on a few key areas. Just a lick of paint or deep carpet clean can help transform a weary looking lounge into an interior designer’s dream. The walls and floors of any room are the most prominent feature, so ensure they are looking sharp. You can use wall stickers and vinyl’s if you want to create something unique, without spending a fortune on paint. If you’re lucky enough to have wood flooring underneath the carpets then show it off! Pull up the carpet, sand the wooden flooring and then either varnish or paint, depending on your preference. One small change can make a big difference to your living room.
Quirky Furniture
There are some huge design trends for 2014, many of which feature some really cool and quirky furniture pieces. Vintage classics such as the Chesterfield Sofa are back in fashion, along with old luggage trunks and art deco lamps. You don’t have to spend a lot of money investing in some unique pieces for the lounge; go bargain hunting! Have a look through your local charity shops, boot fairs and jumble sales to see what you can get your hands on. If you’ve got a little more cash to splash then have a look through antique stores, as well. Don’t fill your living room with lots of little pieces, instead focus on one or two key items to show off your style.
Personal Touches
If you want to be on trend and sentimental, then you’re in luck! A huge interior design fashion, this year, is all about the personal touches, which makes your living room truly yours. The great thing about this trend is that you probably already have most of the things you need. Dig out old photographs from the attic and get them up in mismatched frames. Use a large, plain glass frame to show off photos, tickets and other sentimental items. We love being able to dig out our sentimental items when guests come round, so why not have them on display?
Upcycling
Last, but by no means least, is the upcycling trend. It started a few years back and has now become the hottest interior design trick. Got some old furniture you’re not keen on? Simply upcycle it! You can paint wooden furniture, reupholster cushions and use old nicknacks as multi-purpose items. There are a whole load of ideas for upcycling things online, most of which are quick, easy and cheap. You don’t need to have an expert knowledge in DIY to be able to learn many of the simple techniques that upcyclers use; sewing, sanding and painting tend to be the most common methods.
There’s something so refreshing about giving any room in the house a spruce up, especially a room that you spend a lot of time in. Gather your friends and family to give you a hand and your living room will look brand new in no time.
What a neat idea..I love this ! I need to get some projects done around my place
I’ve never done upcycling before but it sounds like a smart way to go.
Nice report. I’d love to do something new with our walls but am, I guess, afraid of color. Whenever we try new colors, we end up feeling closed in by it, and go back to variations of off white.
I would love to have a Chesterfield!
Wish I lived there. Great info.

This reminds me that sanding my wooden floors is on my to do list.

I’ve been needing to redesign the living area of the house, so these tips are perfect for me. But instead of deep cleaning the carpet, the entire thing needs ripped up! The previous owners did a number on them so yeah, no getting those stains out.
Great design tips. We’re working on putting together a design plan for our living room. I can’t wait until it’s done and everything works harmoniously!
