BeadforLife: The Gift that Gives Back
Disclosure: Howdy everyone, I wanted to inform you that I was not compensated for this post. However, I did receive a product and the opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own.
As Americans we often forget just how much we are blessed, especially American women. We are able to make our own decisions, become educated, choose our career, marry whom we like, go where we want and do what we want. In other countries, women are not so lucky. Take Uganda for example. Women there live in extreme poverty with little to no income. They not only lack jobs, they lack education.
BeadforLife is non-profit company that helps opportunities for women in Uganda to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. They provide women with training and skills to make products that are sold both through their online shop and through house parties around the world. They also provide the rest of the world with an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
“At BeadforLife, we ignite opportunities for women living on less than a dollar a day to become self-sustaining entrepreneurs, finding within themselves the power to transform their lives. And we help women all over the world engage meaningfully in the fight against extreme poverty, finding within themselves the power to change the world.”
Each year, BeadforLife helps more than 10,000 Ugandans in more than 2,000 households. Instead of giving handouts, they teach women how to earn money by making beaded jewelry from recycled paper, or gathering shea nuts for lotions, soaps and other beauty products. In addition, they also provide the women with ongoing business or agricultural training to start their own unique business so they are able to sustain their families in the future.
This gorgeous 19″ Ember Wrap Triple Strand Bracelet is just one example of the unique jewelry the women make when working with BeadforLife. Amazingly, each of these beads are handmade, from recycled PAPER by the Kirabo Group located in Kampala, Uganda! Each paper bead is strung on durable line and waxed cotton cord, and comes with a signature Bead for Life hang tag. The beads appear so uniform and shiny that it is hard to believe they are made by hand from a pieces of paper! This bracelet is truly a work of art! Available in a variety of beautiful colors, each of these stylish, hand-crafted bracelets is one of a kind.
In addition to jewelry and shea products, Bead for Life also offers baskets, Akora handbags and many other beautiful products. You can learn more about the work they do, the women they help, and more ways you can help by visiting the Bead for Life website.
This holiday season give a gift that gives back. Give Bead for Life.
