How to will yourself into quitting smoking.

Smoking is a vice that most people are not proud of having. In fact, most of them would love to quit as soon as possible but simply cannot will themselves into doing so.

Although the taste of cigarettes creates a strong dependency, there are some tricks you can use to battle it. Like any quitting process, you need to set up some ground rules, make a strong dedication to quit and finally, implement a decisive long term strategy.

Here are some awesome tips and tricks that will help you quit smoking once and forever.

  1. Find a substitution

To be completely honest, even if you find a proper substitution for cigarettes, that doesn’t mean that you will eventually quit smoking. There are a lot of smokers who are so used to having something in their hands that they cannot quit no matter what. However, substitutions represent a healthier, less expensive solution.

Over the last few decades, we’ve seen a lot of different substitutions some of which more powerful than others. Chewing gums and patches were really popular for a while but now we have something even better.

E-cigarettes are the newest, most advanced substitution for smokers. In fact, they are pretty similar to traditional smokes and use e-liquid bottles. This means that unlike traditional smokes, these ones are much healthier, devoid of nicotine. But always remember: you can use e-cigarettes for years and years but until you completely quit using them, you will still be regarded as a smoker.

  1. Healthy diet

Battle against cigarette is a battle of both body and mind. Like with any other addiction, it is necessary to be strong in order to continue fighting. This is where diet comes into play.

As you well know, most people start gaining weight once they quit smoking. This is quite normal as nicotine affects our appetite and we reduce number of nutrients coming into our body. Actually, this is one of the big issues when you try quitting: cigarettes tend to make you a bit weaker (in comparison to strength you would have with a normal healthy diet without toxins such as cigarettes) and this will eventually affect your will.

If you force yourself to eat better, having bigger portions with more vitamins and minerals, you will have much more energy. This will have really positive effect on your body and mind and will push you in the right direction. However, diet is simply not enough. It is also necessary to add some exercises.

  1. Exercises

Same way diet will increase the amount of quality substance in your body, exercises will help you strengthen your muscles. But that is not all.

Exercises will force you to eat more. It goes hand in hand with improved diet and as your body is craving more nutrients, you will start introducing them into your body. This will quicken your metabolism and ensure you have more energy which is crucial for any quitting process.

There is another thing that is often overlooked when it comes to exercise – they force you to go outside and work in the open air. Being outside is benefit by itself. It also forces you to keep away from cigarettes and home atmosphere. If you’re a smoker, you know how easy it is to go for a cigarette once you’re bored or simply sitting on a couch. Exercises make your proactive and give you less opportunity to light fire.

  1. Find hobbies

Hobbies are very important for anyone who is trying to quit an addiction.

Simply put, the biggest issue with any vice is that there is always something forcing you back to it. This is usually result of overthinking. Just by remembering cigarettes there is a good chance you will feel craving and are more likely to light up one.

If you have an active life or at least something that will occupy your mind, you increase the chance of succeeding in your endeavor. Have in mind that this hobby needs to be really interesting to you otherwise you will quickly stop doing it. Even if you cannot find something that instantly grabs your attention, try alternating between different activities and switching when you see fit.

  • I’ve never smoked before but my son just recently stopped smoking cigarettes and started vaping. I hope he will eventually stop vaping too – he can’t even stand the smell of cigarette smoke now which is a good thing!
