Pack MedJetAssist and Always Be Ready.

Can you imagine working for three years straight with no vacation? Late nights, early mornings, meetings, and project due dates can begin to weigh on a person, no matter who you are. So when my cousin heard the words, “You have been working hard for so long. Take a paid vacation on us as a thank you.

Three weeks: go enjoy some sun and your family,” I was the first person she called with flight plans and a vacation spot already picked out! Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was our destination, and as time got closer, we both were more excited than ever!

The Preparation
While preparing for the trip, my cousin and I went through outfit selections from clothes and shoes all the way to accessories. The anticipation made preparing so much fun, and between the two of us, we had plenty of excitement to go around!

In the midst of the excitement, I abruptly stopped and remembered to remind my cousin to pack her medicine. She takes medicine daily, and missing just one dosage can result in an episode or a night of illness. She never lets it get to her because she is always on top of her medicine. She assured me that she had enough medicine to last us for three years! We laughed and continued packing for our adventure.

One important thing to remember is to be an adult in the middle of having fun. My cousin is a prime example of staying on top of her medication. No matter where we are or what we’re doing, when her phone alarm goes off, she is on top of it.

The Flight
The morning of the flight, the excitement was intense. We couldn’t stop smiling, even if we wanted to. It was a sunny day, the breeze was perfect, and there was no line at airport security. Even all of our corny jokes were funny! We boarded the flight and played rock, paper, scissors for the window seat. We then agreed to share the window seat, with one taking it for half the flight and the other taking it for the second half. Before we knew it, we were up, up, and away!

The Incident
Even with all the preparation in the world, it still happened. She had done everything right, she had taken her medication, and she had brought plenty to spare. This did not stop one of her episodes from happening as the plane was landing. Neither of us thought our first stop off of the plane would be the emergency room near the airport. When she came to, she looked at me in terror with tears in her eyes. She wanted to know where she was, and wanted to know who all these new doctors were. Even though we had just gotten to South Carolina, she wanted to go home!

  • I can sympathize with the worry that comes when traveling with someone who needs their medicine and the scary feeling of suffering an episode. Having medical transport services available without the worry of who you’re going to use can make a trip more easier and comfortable for everyone!

  • I like that if you are hospitalized 150 miles or more from home and meet medical transport criteria. So many great benefits to having this and peace of mind.
