MAKING TIME FOR YOUR CHILDREN

It’s important that parents spend time with their children, finding out about their day, discussing things that are important to them and learning about their friends and interests. This time with your kids is precious, especially if you work a job and they go to school. You may not have a lot of time to spend together each day, and you want to make the most of it.

In order to help you do that, we want to share a few tips about how to give yourself a bit more time each day with your kids.

Leave the Cleaning for Someone Else

A lot of your time at home may be spent in cleaning things up and making your house look presentable, but you don’t have to do all the work yourself. We suggest hiring a cleaning company from time to time to do that work for you, giving you more time of the things that matter. If you aren’t able to do all the work yourself, then why not hire a professional cleaning company to do it in your place? They can use special products to hide nasty smells and do deep cleaning that makes your place look brand new.

 Plan Days Off

You don’t necessarily have to take time off from work to spend with your kids, but you should plan to have some days where you do no work at home or very little and instead spend time with the kids. You might want to prepare some meals ahead of time the night before or get all your housework in days ahead of time to make sure that you have time to spend with the kids. Do this every so often to ensure that you are getting enough time in with them.

 Shut Down the Electronics

One of the biggest distractions that keeps you from spending time with your kids is all the electronic devices in the house. Your tablets, phones and computers may provide a comfort after a hard day of work, but they also keep you from learning about your kids and getting to know what is going on with their lives. You can disconnect the internet or just put down all electronics in an effort to get more time in with the kids. Plan to have electronic free nights or days every so often to make sure you aren’t too attached to your devices and the kids aren’t too attached to theirs.

Plan Events for You and the Kids

Give your kids something to look forward to and clear out space in your schedule by planning some events every now and then. You can have a movie night or party, go out to the park or out to eat or just take a walk. You should have times like this several times a month that your kids can anticipate and know that you will be doing something with them. If you make plans like this and make it a regular occurrence, you are more likely to make sure you set apart time for the kids.

  • Sometimes just shutting off the electronics and playing games, taking walks and talking can really help for family closeness. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • This is such a great post, it is definitely important to make time for your children! I am so thankful that I am able to be a stay at home mom, as someone who came from a single parent home. My dad did the best he could, but I didn’t get a lot of attention. I always strive to give my three kids as much of my time as possible!

  • Wonderful tips. I would love to have someone else do the cleaning! I don’t see that happening. But the rest of the tips are doable!!

  • We had an ideal situation when my boys were little. My husband worked night and I worked days. So when I was at work he was home and when he worked I was home. They got quality time with both of us.

  • My kids were raised by their Dad ………….long story. So, that meant that I had visitation. I even back then didn’t want my kids to have the newest gadget in electronic toys. When they came to visit me we played board games, did fun things while doing household chores etc. I took them fishing and those were some great bonding times with them. It made it easier for them to talk to me in a relaxing setting. I wish those days were back as I am estranged pretty much from my daughter we bonded so much back then and now she is grown I am the reason everything is wrong in my life. So, even as a Grandma I make sure that I spend quality time with my grandkids that aren’t filled with video games, smart phones etc.

  • Yes! I totally agree! I have two daughters, ages 3 and 5 years old. They are growing so quickly. I am trying to enjoy every moment I have with them… but I do have a messy house. 😉
