How to Keep Your Kid’s Teeth Clean and Healthy

As parents, we know the importance of good dental habits. You try your best to pass oral health onto your kids and keeping children’s teeth cavity-free is the ultimate goal. Poor dental health can effect your child’s smile and scare your dentist.

In some cases, the main cause of malnutrition is a failure to eat and can be caused by untreated dental diseases. Infections also affect child self-esteem and social development.

What causes a cavity?

What is a cavity? Simply it is the softening of the tooth enamel. If this enamel is left untreated, a hole can eventually occur. In short, it damages the structure of the tooth to an extent where the only solution is filling it.

Tooth decay occurs when food gets trapped between the teeth and is not removed when brushing. The cavity-causing bacteria in the mouth consume simple sugars and converts them into acid plaque.

The acid produced by these bacteria causes enamel layers to soften. If it is untreated, the cavity can continue to erode and damage the inner part of the teeth.

These are fixed by your dentist by applying a filling which is often made of metal but don’t worry you won’t go setting of metal detectors with these fillings.

How can you prevent a cavity naturally?

Many people believe that the only way to fix cavities is by booking an appointment with a dentist and having tooth filled.

However, what most people fail to understand is that tooth decay and cavities can be reversed and fillings are not the only options available.

  1. Change your Diet

To minimize the risk of damage, healthy tooth structure is required. Easy adjustments include:

Avoid drinks with high carbonation and consume more calcium-rich foods.

  1. High Vitamin D intake

Vitamin D is very relevant as it improves tooth resistance to bacteria. A diet with a high level of vitamin D prevents the spread of dental problems. Food that helps promote salivation include bananas. If you are not interested in eating supplements you should eat more whole grain foods and seafood.

  1. Drink Bone Broth

Bone broth is rich in nutrients that support oral health. Calcium and phosphorus extracted from the bone are easily absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract.

The most important component of bone broth is gelatin. It contains an abundance of amino acids. This boosts the bodies ability to use and break down nutrients in food. The overall effect improves immunity.

Ultimately, this combats the causes of cavities and other oral related diseases. For that reason, you can consider creating broth in large batches and using it as a base for stews.

  1. Limit Phytates in your Diet

Wheat, cereals and other pre-prepared foods contain phytic acid. What is phytic acid? It is referred to as anti-nutrient because of its ability to block essential elements like zinc and magnesium.

In that case, they contribute to nutrient deficiency and digestive complications associated with tooth decay.

Phytic acid is commonly found in beans, seeds and grains. It has been proved that a high intake of phytates increases the risk of dental cavity development. This is because it interferes with the bodies ability to absorb essential nutrients for healthy teeth maintenance.

  1. Take Green Tea

Routine sipping of coffee creates pH imbalance in the mouth. You can’t deny that you may be worried about coffee staining your teeth more than you are that coffee creates pH imbalance.

Green tea does not require added sweeteners. It contains catechins which act as antioxidant. While it improves oral health, it also wards off harmful bacteria.

  1. Use Reliable Supplements

Anyone with lactose intolerance may also be deficient in vitamin D. Therefore to increase the availability of nutrients to teeth, consider the following:

  • Magnesium
  • High-quality fish
  • Probiotics.

It is with no doubt that any parent is solely responsible for their kid’s health. With that in mind, you can make it easier to keep your children’s teeth healthy using these tips.
