You should always think about how to upgrade and modernize your home. This isn’t just about your own personal enjoyment, although looking at the latest tech on the market, it’s definitely an advantage. Just look at the latest home systems on the market.

A smart home control allows you to control your property in a variety of ways. For instance, with the latest systems, you can set your home to reach a certain temperature and then regulate it. Or, you use it to alter the light settings in each different room of the home. The latest systems even have the capability to learn. This means the tech could come to understand what settings you will appreciate and ensure that the home changes to match your needs

Of course, smart home controls is just one of the exciting changes to homes in 2017. There are much more, and they are not all based on personal enjoyment. Some are used to make the homes look ultra-stylish. An example of that would be minimalist designs.

With minimalist designs, you limit the amount of furniture and accessories in each room. But rather than looking bare, the room looks futuristic and contemporary. Minimalism is about picking the key furniture pieces and using neutral colors and shades to ensure that they stand out.

You might also find that upgrading your property leads to it becoming more valuable. For instance, you can get new bathroom fittings. A new bathroom renovation could add as much as twenty-five percent onto the asking value of your home. This will certainly be appreciated when it’s time to sell.

So, here are some of the greatest trends modern homeowners should be thinking about and the ways they could benefit your property this year. It’s time to throw out the old and bring in new colors, new shades and new designs.

It’s Marbleous!

Marble is very in right now for homeowners, and you will constantly see it in bathrooms and kitchens if you look around show homes. So, why is marble so popular these days? Well, it does suggest a certain level of success and financial achievement. It also makes the home look almost classically stylish. There is no doubt that a marble floor in the hall will give your home a sense of grandeur that is difficult to imitate.

Of course, if you love the idea of having marble floors or countertops in your home, you might be put off by the price. That’s understandable as authentic marble floors can cost upwards of thousands. They can also be quite difficult to maintain because they’re not that durable. Marble easily cracks and scratches. As soon as it does, it’s not quite as impressive.

That’s why many homeowners are looking for an aesthetic alternative. It looks and feels like marble, but it’s not as expensive. These aesthetic materials have become more popular lately and could be the true reason why marble in homes is becoming more common. It may look expensive, but it probably doesn’t hold the price tag you’d expect. Does this alter how much it will add to your home? An aesthetic material could still make a buyer add at least one more digit onto their first offer

Going Industrial

Right now, you can see this idea present in clothing and jeweler. Essentially, rings from modern stores look a little like pieces of metal you might find on the floor of an industrial construction site. This modern look has become very popular with urban consumers, and it can also be seen in the modern home.

The best showcase of this can be seen in handle and faucets. Handles on cupboard doors used to be round and smooth. Now, they are often sharp, hard with clear, cut edges. Again, they make a room look modern, and that industrialized design is part of the minimalistic feel present in so many homes.

You can even get furniture with the similar, steel look and could fit into an office boardroom as much as it would a living area. In fact, this type of furniture fits into the idea of space conservation that’s present in almost every new home. Furniture is chosen to look small and unobtrusive rather than being a focal point of the room.

It’s A Whole New World Of Color

If you thought that minimalist meant that color would disappear from rooms, you were wrong. If you search for minimalistic style, you will usually find something similar to the image of the room below.

You can see the appeal. It looks like a wide open space and the white walls certainly seem to add to that effect. However, these days, walls are more likely to be brighter and filled with creativity. For instance, rather than beige color, you might see crystal colors or emerald green on the walls. These are the types of vibrant shades you should be thinking about adding to your home.

Out In The Open

Minimalism is all about designing your home as a wide open space. As such, it should come as no surprise that open living plans are back in style. In fact, if you have a dining room you might consider knocking it down and opening up a larger space in your home.

Again, the appeal here is easy to see because it will make the home look larger. This will undoubtedly lead to the home being valued at a higher level. Although, you might still find some buyers are looking for that old fashioned layout with each room separate and for a specific purpose.

Though living rooms, kitchens and dining rooms are all often one in the same in modern homes. They might have adjoining doors that can be closed or left open depending on the owner’s preference. But this still allows the owner to create the perception of a larger area without the typical hallways in between.

Even modern bathrooms are somewhat open plan. Rather than having a bath, you might just have a large area for showering with a wet floor. Not only is this easier to maintain, but it also provides more comfort for the homeowner. Modern homeowners prefer to have as much space as possible when showering, rather than feeling trapped in a closed off cubicle. Luckily, designers are now catering to this need. Bathroom renovations often provide this type of change for the homeowners adventurous enough to try it.

Be Bright, Be Bold

It seems people have grown tired of homes that look plain, dull and dreary with pastel colors on the wall. This year, you’ll see plenty of new homes with brightly decorated kitchens using apple shades and bright blue bathrooms. You will even see living areas with zesty orange wallpaper and furniture to match. That’s right, bright is back in a way that we haven’t seen since the late seventies.

So, you might want to take the chance to get rid of the boring cream walls in your home and add a little life to your property.

Fold Up, Fold Away

Of course, we can’t get away from the minimalist design for too long, and this is shown through the new obsession with fold up furniture and fold away appliances. It seems homeowners love the idea of putting everything away to the point where a home looks empty. You should definitely be looking for appliances that don’t intrude into room space

For instance, you can purchase an oven for your home with a door that slides out of sight when opened. As well as looking stylish, it makes cooking a lot easier. These days, you can even get furniture that fits into shelf units, and it really has to be seen to be believed. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why people feel they no longer need a dining room. If you have a full table that disappears out of sight, why do you need a room for it?

Mix And Match

Before decorating your home, you might have worked hard to ensure that everything matched and fit into the overall feel of the room. For instance, you would have tried to match the style of the bed with the curtain pole or perhaps the wood of the bannister. You might have even chosen curtains for the living area that had the same pattern as the sofa cushions. But that’s not something you need to worry about today.

Instead, you can have fun choosing colors and patterns that contrast beautifully in bold and exciting ways. It’s time to stretch your creative muscle and design rooms in your home that look truly unique. Today, one of the most popular style options is to create your own. Instead of following the footprints of other homeowners you can mix and match different options to create a truly unique living area.

We hope you see now that homes are certainly going to look different this year. But that’s great because it gives you the chance to completely redesign your home and make it look modern. If you do, you won’t just alter the value of the property. You’ll alter how much you adore your home as well.

  • The marble look is quite trending I think but in kind of over it. I love pop of colors here and there it keeps the room looking stylish with a happy vibe. Bold colors is always my choice.

  • Personally, I would love a lot of different colors to decorate/re-do my home. Bright throw pillow covers, lots of photos on the wall, and even wall decals are being seriously considered. I would love to do a minimalist look, but I am too much of a memorabilia collector that it would not work for me.

  • I have to admit I felt shame reading the title of the post because my condo is 90% grey haha. In all seriousness I’ve been in my condo for almost a decade now so I think it’s definitely time for an overhaul however small or large it ends up being. Thanks for the great tips I’m sure they’ll come in handy!

  • What handsome styles! I love a modern/ industrial look. However, I know I’m way too “homey” for a house that looks staged/ sparse. My placed looks quite lived in (aka, slightly messy at all times)!

  • I adore bright and bold colors and I’m loving the blue wall! I have that same blue on my sofa and I’ve been thinking about using that color on an accent wall in my dining room. I have an open concept living/dining/kitchen, so I think it will look awesome. Thanks for giving me the nudge to go for it!
