Why contract a landscaping company?

If you are reading this, you probably have a pretty good idea of what landscaping is already and also why you need it. What you may not know is that any activity that causes a visible change in the features of an area of land is considered landscaping as well. This includes flora or fauna, bodies of water, landforms, terrain elevation and shape, gardening, the weather and even lighting conditions.

We don’t recommend doing your landscaping yourself unless you are a landscaping professional. Landscaping requires expertise in art, design, and horticulture. It is both an art and science – you need an artistic sense, a sense of what is visually appealing, an understanding of aesthetics. But you also need some pretty specific technical knowledge. Rarely does one person have both – we just aren’t wired that way.

A real professional understands the land and knows what the right tools are to work it. Construction and development require study and observation. As landscapes vary depending on the geographic region, we suggest contacting local nature experts, especially if you are new to landscaping. Understanding the land and site is one of the key essentials for successful landscaping. Diverse natural features like topography, frost line depth, terrain, soil qualities, native flora and fauna and prevailing winds must be taken into consideration.

In some cases, the land just cannot be landscaped – you have to change its shape completely. This, too, is possible, and it is known as grading. This might be necessary where your yard or lawn is in really bad shape – for instance if someone just laid sod over rocks and clay and it ended up washing away. This is fixable. You could add organic matter to the clay, plant some trees and shrubs, or lay gravel over the worst parts. Better yet, why not contract a landscaping company? There is a wide variety to choose from. If grading or filling is needed, a company would be indispensable. It might be dangerous to try to do this yourself, and what’s more, you might not have the right equipment. Filling involves adding earth to the land.

Sometimes cutting may be needed. This is the opposite of filling – it means removing earth. This is done to get rid of excessive rocks, soil or waste.

What tools are used in landscaping, most commonly? At first the landscaping professional makes a sketch of what could be done with your garden / yard. It’s important to be really clear and specific about what you want at this stage. Rarely is a beautiful landscape achievable without a bulldozer, a chainsaw or a lawnmower or several of each. The plant qualities are different depending on the area. A huge amount of fertilizer is needed to this end. If the area you want landscaped is relatively large, it would be best to mix rocks of varying sizes with gravel to make it look more appealing and don’t forget you can always see which chainsaws are the best for the job here.

If you want something really unique, however, you should look into aqua-scaping, arboriculture, and horticulture.

  • It’s good to know that a professional knows what the right tools are to work on your land. My husband and I just recently moved into our very first home a couple of weeks ago that has a pretty large front yard, and we want to make it look nice so that we can increase curb appeal. I really appreciate you helping me learn more about the benefits of hiring a landscaping company.

  • I loved how you mentioned that a professional will know what type of tools to work with. My husband and I recently moved into a new home and we can’t seem to find any time to work on the landscape and to make it our own. We’ll have to look into hiring a landscaping company to make our yard look nice!

  • Thanks for explaining that construction and development require study and observation. I am planning on redoing my yard, but I know for sure that I haven’t done anything like study landscaping before. I will be sure to hire a professional that has spent a lot of time in honing their craft.

  • I like how you said that a real professional understands the land and knows what the right tools are to work with. My father has been remodeling his entire home. It may be beneficial for him to hire a landscaping service.

  • I like that you explain how professionals know what tools are right for the work to create the design you want. This would also be useful for maintenance services so that the work is done correctly in order to keep your chosen design. If someone is looking for a company for landscape maintenance and other services, it would probably be a good idea to check local companies online and contact them in order to determine which one has the equipment, experience, and skills to complete the necessary work so they can get quality results.

  • At times I can imagine the beauty for which landscape may offer; it becomes often times a struggle due to disability and intense pain!Affordability is the key factor to which is often the decider.

Given that of my judgment, It is agreed to being both an art and science – though I am said to have an artistic sense, my creative thoughts often end up in that of things becoming quite out of my budget so I have to deal with just that of the basics (if / when funds are available).

  • We just have a regular size front and back yards. The both of them together are about an acre. My husband takes care of our lawn, bushes, & the one tree we have in our front yard. He’s always seeded, mowed, watered the lawn and plants. I worry though – he is 69 years old and I have been looking around & price comparing the lawn service companies around here.
    Thanks for the insight!

  • Oh my gosh. We used to have a beautiful yard/garden. We had to lay off our gardener though because we couldn’t afford him after my husband lost his job. It is such a mess now. It makes me so sad. It would be a dream come true to have a professional come and fix the disaster. I used to LOVE to garden. I would spend hours planting flowers. Now, there is no room for flowers because there are so many weeds. Breaks my heart. 🙁
