A Cooling Mattress May Help You Get Better Sleep

If you are looking for a way to get better sleep, you may want to consider investing in a cooling mattress. The experts at the National Sleep Foundation have found that a temperature of between 60 and 69°F is ideal for promoting better sleep. When setting up your bedroom, they recommend creating a dark, cave-like atmosphere that is relatively cool. Right before you go to sleep, the core temperature of your body decreases. If your room is too hot or if your mattress causes you to overheat, it can make it more difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep. A good way to overcome these problems is by choosing a cooling mattress.

How To Find A Mattress That Will Keep You Cool While You Sleep

If you have a tendency to overheat when you sleep, you should look for a mattress that incorporates special cooling features. When comparing different mattress models, always read the description to see if the manufacturer specifically mentions any special attributes or characteristics that are designed to promote a cooler sleeping environment. If there are no special features mentioned, you should probably keep looking until you find a mattress that is designed with cooling in mind.

Memory Foam Mattresses Don’t Have To Leave You Feeling Overheated

Memory foam mattresses provide the ultimate in comfort and support. Unfortunately, they also have a tendency to make people warmer while they sleep. This is especially true when manufacturers use low-quality materials that don’t include any cooling features. Although this may help keep the cost of the mattress down, it can lead to problems with consumers overheating during the night.

There are, however, some memory foam mattresses out there that are designed with special cooling technology. These mattresses use materials that not only provide all of the benefits of a traditional memory foam mattress but also help keep you cool while you sleep. That means that you really can enjoy the best of both worlds. You can relax in the soft, body-hugging comfort of memory foam without winding up getting hot or sweaty during the night.

Special Considerations When Buying A Cooling Mattress

Mattresses, such as the Tuft & Needle, that are designed to provide a cooler sleep experience usually are categorized as being active or passive, depending on how they work. For instance, mattresses with active cooling features may have special mattress pads with integrated fans that help keep them cool. In some cases, they are even so high-tech that they can be controlled by your smartphone. Although these features do provide a cooler sleeping experience, they come at a cost.

Mattresses that rely on passive cooling technology, on the other hand, are more affordable. They are an excellent budget-friendly option for anyone who wants to sleep more soundly without the need for high-tech gadgets or complicated features. For instance, mattresses like the Dromma bed include the following cooling features:

* Memory foam with an open-cell design. Unlike closed-cell memory foam, this type of memory foam allows air to circulate, helping to create a cooler sleeping experience. Depending on how cool you like it when you sleep, you may need to combine this technology with other cooling technologies to create the ideal sleep environment.

*Gel foam mattresses. These mattresses have a special type of liquid gel that has been added to the foam to help keep you cooler while you sleep.

* Natural materials. Some modern memory foam mattresses include plant-based materials such as soy. The cell structure in these mattresses tends to be more open, making them more breathable. As a result, they usually provide a cooler sleeping experience.

* Mattress covers with cooling technology. If you are going to put a mattress cover on your mattress, choose one that has a circular knit pattern. These covers tend to feature a more breathable design than other types of mattress covers, helping to provide a cooling effect.

Thanks to the latest technological developments, it is now possible to get a comfortable, supportive memory foam mattress that keeps you cool while you sleep.

Additional Tips For Staying Cool At Night

Buying the right mattress is only one part of the equation. You should also turn down the thermostat in your bedroom, aiming for a temperature of anywhere between 60 and 69°.

Regular exercise can help you sleep better at night. Just make sure that you don’t exercise too close to bedtime. Raising your body temperature with exercise and then allowing it to drop when you cool down can help promote better sleep.

Another good way to sleep better at night is by taking a warm bath at least an hour-and-a-half before bed. Again, this raises the core body temperature. As it drops, you will naturally become sleepier, making it easier to fall asleep when you go to bed. Just make sure to provide your body with plenty of time to cool down.

The combination of a cooling mattress and good sleep habits can help you get the rest that you need.

  • I absolutely love memory foam so I am glad there is a cooling effect for that. I have such trouble sleeping. I overheat and can’t get comfortable.

  • I purchased a gel foam mattress and I have to say while it’s not exactly “cool”, I also don’t wake up sweating as I sometimes did with a regular coil mattress. I’ve been pretty happy with it even though it’s a budget gel foam mattress.

  • I like that it has a cover that’s more comfortable if it’s woven. There are so many things that have cooling abilities and it would be comfortable to open the windows in hot months with the bed offering a cooling respite for the body. I believe there are cooling pillows which would be a way to try the concept on a smaller size.
