4 Safety Features in New Cars Worth the Extra Money.

Buying a new car is a delicate process. You need to consider the manufacturer. Everyone knows that some automakers have vehicles that easily last 300,000 miles, while others need to be fixed or repaired daily.

Budget needs to come into the equation, too. Not everyone has the budget to buy a Tesla.

Safety also needs to be a real consideration. Automakers are incorporating advanced safety features into their vehicles that can prevent injuries and possibly save your life.

What safety features are worth the money?

1. Blind Spot Detection

Blind spot detection saves lives. Objects often get into our blind spot when driving, and if you can’t see the object, it is too easy to hit it. There are blind spot cameras that will warn you when someone is in your blind spot.

Switching lanes or getting on the highway has never been safer than with blind spot detection.

You can also buy these detection systems and mount them to your vehicle if you want the added protection when driving.

2. Backup Cameras

Backup cameras are amazing. I find parallel parking and backing into parking spaces much easier thanks to backup cameras. These cameras are installed in a lot of newer vehicles, but they can also be installed in your automobile, too.

These cameras give you a clear view of what’s behind you when backing up.

This means a reduction in injuries and deaths.

The IIHS found that backing up accidents have led to:

  • 18,000 injuries
  • 300 deaths

Thankfully, the speed at which a person backs up is far lower than when driving forward, so the number of deaths is much lower than injuries.

Backup cameras are a very useful addition to every vehicle, and the technology provides you with a viewing angle that you might not have had otherwise.

3. Forward Collision Warning Systems

Forward collision warnings are in a lot of luxury vehicles, but the technology is becoming available in more vehicles every year. These systems will provide audible alerts to drivers that tell them when they’re too close to someone in front of them.

And some of these systems have automatic braking applications, too.

When the brake automatically engages, it will stop the vehicle to prevent a potential accident. This technology can greatly reduce accidents. In states, such as Texas where there are 245,000 people are injured annually, primarily in forward collision accidents, forward collision systems can reduce a major portion of accidents.

4. Adaptive Headlights

Automatic headlights are a great advancement, but now the technology has improved even further. Adaptive headlights are now a thing. These headlights actually pivot in your direction of travel, increasing visibility around corners.

Adaptive headlights don’t provide the same safety impact as other technology on this list, but it’s still a great advancement in automobile safety.

Studies show that property damage claims have been reduced by 10% thanks to adaptive headlights. High-end vehicles, such as Mazda, Acura and Mercedes, are making use of adaptive headlights.

There is also high-beam assist technology that’s being implemented into some of these adaptive headlight systems.

High-beam assist will increase visibility drastically, making it safer to drive at night.
