As we get older, our health starts to matter so much more. Our bodies are our vessels, and they perform only as well as we take care of them. When it comes to wellness, it often feels like it’s something you can only do when you’re rich, all those fancy foods and drinks and super pricey gyms. But the truth is, you don’t have to be wealthy to be well, and all it takes are a few adjustments and habits. Here are some ideas for free ways to get health and fit.

Track Your Calories and Get Into Deficit

Have you ever wondered how people can eat healthy and still not lose weight? A lot of the time it’s because they aren’t caloric deficit, meaning that they eat more than they use up on exercise and daily activities. As long as you don’t follow this rule, you won’t get any weight loss results. An easy adjustment you can make in your life is cutting out extraneous calories from unhealthy sauces, sugar and other additives. Not only is this free, adjusting your diet will also save tons of cash.

Run in the Neighborhood

You don’t have to be hooked up to the world’s best gym to get fit. Sometimes all you need are your running shoes, some music to run to and a great route! Running gets your heart pumping, and when paired with a good diet, it can help you melt off those pesky pounds. Do watch for safety though, don’t run on isolated roads or go too far out to an area you’re unfamiliar with. Watch out for dogs on your routes. Most dogs you’ll meet are friendly but some can be dangerous. According to Lalande Personal Injury Lawyers, “dog bites are among the most common types of personal injury claims people get help for.” It’s not doubt that some of these injuries take place during a job around the neighborhood, so be careful around open gates.

Cut Back on Alcohol

This isn’t just no-cost it actually puts money in your pocket! One of the most effective weight loss and health tips is to stop drinking your calories. Do you know that some of your favorite cocktails are up to 200 calories in one glass? That’s the same as a piece of white fish! Aside from that, cocktails are filled with sugar and additives that also impact your general wellness, not to mention what hangovers do to your sanity! By choosing to cut back, and drink less you can bring yourself closer to your health goals for the year.

Meditate

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and let’s face it with all the stress of our modern lifestyles, we’re always anxious, worried or close to burning out. One of the things we can do to improve our emotional and mental health is to just take some quiet time and do some breathing exercises to calm us down. It’s completely free, and it pays you back richly.

You don’t need a pricey gym membership, a health coach or even a whole lot of paid training programs to become a healthier version of yourself. All it takes is having the right attitude and you’ll discover there are so many ways to take better care of yourself. Some of these measures just require you take some things out of your life and shift your habits a bit. If you commit, before long you’ll start seeing results and it will just keep getting better and better!

  • I am a runner and fitness instructor, and I was actually attacked by a dog on a leash while running on the sidewalk on my neighborhood. I am super fit and a really fast runner too. So, it was just a wake up call that things can happen. I still run outside, but I am very cautious and more aware of my surroundings. Also, as a busy mom, I have found great ways to workout at home. Some workouts only require a mat or a towel. You can also do so many strength exercises for the entire body with just a kettle bell or a dumbells.
